Best Carry Pistol 2025 Sig Sauer P226
The Sig P226 was originally developed from the Sig Sauer P210 pistol as a replacement for the long-standing .45 ACP 1911A1 handgun. The resulting pistol failed to win the contract, which ultimately went to the Beretta M9.
Although the US Navy also purchased the Beretta, initial problems with metal quality resulted in slide cracks among the pistols with a high number of rounds. The SEALs, experiencing defect-related accidents, switched to the Sig P226 and called it the Mark 11. Its use by US police forces further increased the P226's popularity.
The P226 is a metal-framed, all-metal handgun. It has a fifteen-round magazine, an overall length of 7.72 inches (19 cm), and a barrel length of 4.11 inches (10.4 cm). When loaded, the pistol weighs 2.28 pounds (1 kg). Like the G***k 19, the P226 is also a double-action pistol, although it also has a single-action mode that allows the pistol to be manually cocked. This pistol also features a cocking lever to lower the hammer without pulling the trigger.
