Princess Diana and Prince Charles land in Australia to start their 6 week tour of Australia and New Zealand. Being the hands on mother she was, Diana insisted that young Prince William came along. Something that was completely out of the ordinary at the time, since Royal children were always left at home. But Diana decided to go against protocol and take her mothering skills aboard.
With the wind in her hair and a smile on her face, Diana stepped off the Royal plane ready to embrace her first International Royal tour since becoming the Princess of Wales. ✈️🇦🇺

Charles and Diana visited Alice Springs, Northern Territory in Australia. To stand out amongst the crowds of spectators that turned out to see them, Diana opted for a yellow dress with white pumps and gold chain bracelet. With this being their first international tour as a couple, it became apparent to the press and public that Diana was now the star of the show.
"I remember we were in Australia , and there was 20 photographers doing Diana, and no-one doing Charles. And the press officer screaming at us 'Can someone please cover the Prince'. I remember once this little boy came up to the Prince of Wales and said 'Oi Charlie wheres Diana??'. And He turned around and said 'Shes not coming today son, you better ask for your money back'. -Arthur Edwards Royal Photographer🇦🇺✈️📸

Even though the Royal couple were only 4 days into their first international tour, the people of Australia had already began to fall in love with Diana. The Princess brought about a new down-to-earth nature, which lead to people feeling comfortable and relaxed in her presence. Although tour meant several walk abouts and outfit changes a day, the Princess always put her child first, insisting that see saw him every day.
To the Australian public, Diana and Charles seemed very much in love. But behind cameras and closed doors, their marriage was starting to crumble.

Princess Diana hired former Corrie actor, Peter Settelen as a voice coach as she wanted to appear more confident when speaking in public.
The £50-an-hour sessions also helped her prepare for the famous 1995 Panorama interview. Diana let Settelen set up a video camera as she poured her heart out, revealing intimate details about her love life and marriage.
50 hours were filmed over 18 months in 1992 and 1993. However, only 7 of a total of 12 tapes were ever found, the other five tapes are said to be missing as of 2017.🎥👑

When it came to protecting her children, Diana spared no effort. Being a "royal rebel", Diana has no problem going against the advice of her protection officers and confronting photographers. In the 90s, Diana decided to take her boys away on a ski holiday to Austria. While sitting at a restaurant she noticed that the near by paparazzi were scaring her children, so Diana confronted them face to face.
"She was not a push over. Never ever, that's a ridiculous concept". -Charles Spencer (Dianas Brother)

Summer was nearly over. And according to the friend that she telephoned on her last day alive, Diana was anxious to go home and see her sons. But Dodi wanted one last weekend in Paris and that is exactly what it would be.
"From the south of France they were meant to go straight back to London. But at some point on the plane, Dodi must have called his dad saying; "Can we go to Paris". Because he wouldn't have done anything without his dad's permission. His Dad obviously said yes and they landed in Paris. -Dickie Arbiter (FMR Royal Press Secretary)
"She rang me and said "Dodi wants to go to Paris. The only way I can get home Paul is on the Harrods Jet. Thats my only lift home so I have to go to Paris, I have no choice. Would you tell William and Harry at Balmoral that I will be back the day after". -Paul Burrel (Diana's Butler)
Dodi owned an apartment in Paris, and that's where the couple would head first. But the paparazzi were hot on the trail.

31st August 1997
At 00:23 (Paris Time), Henri's Paul (Driver of the car) lost control of the vehicle at the entrance to the Pont de l'Alma tunnel. The car struck the right-hand wall and then swerved to the left of the two-lane carriageway before it collided head-on with the 13th pillar that supported the roof.
Dodi and Henri were killed instantly, meanwhile Diana and her bodyguard were still alive after the impact. Photographers, who had been driving slower and were some distance behind the Mercedes, reached the scene. While some rushed to help open the doors and save the victims, many simply stood by a took photographers of the dying Princess in hopes of selling them later on.
Despite attempts to save her life, Diana's injuries were too extensive and resuscitation attempts, including internal cardiac massage, were unsuccessful: her heart had been displaced to the right side of the chest, which tore the pulmonary vein and the pericardium.
Operating for two hours, doctors tried, and failed, to get Diana's heart beating properly again.
She never regained consciousness. Diana passed away from internal bleeding at 4:00 am on the morning of August 31, 1997.
