A grieving father whose 16 year old son died by su***de after an online sextortion scam is speaking out. Brian Montgomery called it "a slap in the face" that congressional leaders chose to meet with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg instead of families like his who have been pushing for online safety protections for years .
Montgomery's son Walker was targeted on Instagram by a predator who convinced him to send explicit photos. The scammer demanded money. Within hours, Walker took his own life . Just days after a jury hit Meta with a $375 million penalty for harming young users, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune sat down with Zuckerberg . The parents' group ParentsSOS has been trying to secure a meeting with Johnson for two years. They are still waiting .
"To expect them to self regulate is absurd," Montgomery said. "We've got a harmful product in tech that continues to harm kids, and it has to be regulated" .
