Haiden Deegan is set to line up in the 450 class for the SuperMotocross World Championship Finals, marking his first time racing the premier class in SMX competition.

This won't be Deegan's first taste of 450 Supercross racing, though. At the end of 2025, Haiden jumped into the SX1 class for two rounds of the FIM World Supercross Championship, racing the YZ450F in Argentina and Australia. Those races gave him his first experience going head-to-head with the premier-class Supercross field on the big bike.

Now, after spending the 2026 Pro Motocross season aboard the 450, Deegan takes the next step as he lines up for his first SMX races in the premier class.

Daniel Blair sees the 450SMX opener in Columbus setting up as a war between Hunter Lawrence and Haiden Deegan. 👀🔥

With Jett Lawrence sitting out the playoffs, Deegan gets something we haven't really seen yet in his young 450 career: a chance to take on one Lawrence brother without the other one in the fight.

Deegan spent most of his rookie 450 outdoor season trying to close the gap to the Lawrence brothers. At Ironman, he finally finished ahead of both of them in Moto 2.

Now they're heading back inside the stadiums. 🏟️⚔️

And SMX has been VERY good to Deegan.

He beat Hunter for the inaugural 250SMX championship as a rookie in 2023, dominated the playoffs the following year, and enters Columbus as the only 450 rider in the field who has previously won an SMX championship.

But this isn't the Hunter Lawrence of 2023.

Hunter has been one of the fastest riders in the sport all year, and Blair considers him the favorite for the 450SMX title. 🏆

Justin Cooper Out of SMX!

🗣️ With limited time to prepare for the upcoming SM World Championship Playoffs, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing's Justin Cooper shifts his focus to his 2027 campaign and will sit out the three-round postseason.

"We were hoping to have Justin back for the playoffs, but without having much time on the bike, the best decision was to focus on the 2027 season and have him back fighting up front." - Wil Hahn, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing's 450 Team Manager.

"It's disappointing to miss the SMX playoffs. My goal was to be back on the gate in Ohio, but unfortunately I just don't have enough preparation on the bike to go racing at the level | know I'm capable of. Scuba has held a few top roles in his 20 year racing career, including team manager at both Triumph Factory Racing and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna. 👀

🔥 THE BIKE HAS LIMITS. DEEGAN DOESN’T.

I’ll say this: Yamaha is a great bike, but even a great machine has its limits. In 2026, there were moments when the bike simply wasn’t capable of giving Haiden everything he needed. And honestly, there’s only so much a rider can do.

But DNGR38 kept pushing. 💪🔥

No overall wins this season, but Haiden still did his job and kept the factory Yamaha right where it belongs — fighting at the front and finishing 3rd overall in the 450 championship as a rookie.

That says a lot.

2026 was about learning, adapting, and proving he belongs. 2027 is going to be a different year. The experience is there now, the speed is there, and the hunger isn’t going anywhere.

The kid isn’t done. He’s just getting started. 🏁🔥
