Island of Sumba 🦋 The Padda Awu ceremony.

In a traditional village where houses had been destroyed by fire, the community had to wait until March before rebuilding. Only then could they perform Padda Awu, meaning “removing the dust of the fire.”

For two nights, the entire village gathered and stayed awake until sunrise, from the youngest children to the oldest grandparents. The women danced in circles, creating an endless, hypnotic movement, while the men accompanied them with ceremonial chants 🥹

Happy to share a few shots from Ivan’s portrait, a basketball player from Maputo.

These scenes were part of the music video we shot in Mozambique with

1. ☀️🏀☀️

2. Chivite making Ivan sweat

3. Ivan practicing shots. Local production found this beautiful open court right by the sea. The sun direction was perfect, but we only had two hours to shoot there.

4. In post-production, we duplicated the ball to recreate the Space Jam super-fast dribble effect 🐰

5. During the lunch break, we stumbled upon this sliding garage door where the sun was casting the perfect shadow of the nearby stairs.

6. 👊🏼 Beautiful shot. Awful handshake from Mickey and Benoit 😬

7. The court lights switching on was an important shot. We decided to freeze the team mid-play to make the light switch feel more dramatic.

Oi gente 🦋 Excited to share some extracts + behind-the-scenes from our music video for shot in Maputo, Mozambique 🇲🇿

Lay came with a moody, powerful track about light and energy. We decided to shoot almost everything indoors or at night, using hard white beams, flashlights : strong contrasts to match the mood of the song.

1.⁠ ⁠Opening shot for “Dame Luz” by 🌗

2.⁠ ⁠🌏 After three days of location scouting in Maputo, we decided to shoot the whole video inside a 1920s sports club. Clube Ferroviário de Lourenço Marques had everything we needed: huge ceilings, beautiful windows, rooftops, a vintage basketball court floor, and a lot of soul.

3.⁠ ⁠Probably our favorite shot of the whole video. Slide left to see how we built it...

4.⁠ ⁠🔦 On the morning of the shoot, the amazing team quickly built a B-set. We used a top light and two flashlights to create moving flashes on Laylizzy’s face. We then quickly color graded the footage, waited for night, and projected it onto a 6x4m thin net hanging in the basketball court.

5.⁠ ⁠Dolly Sliding easy 🏄🏼‍♂️

6.⁠ ⁠Our DOP .mullerdiettert shot this wormhole view by using a vintage S16 zoom lens on a modern camera. The circle around the image is actually the edge of the lens 🔭

7.⁠ ⁠A lot of the shots were lit using only a super powerful (but very cheap) flashlight. It gave us fast setups and a lot of freedom to improvise (even if Louis hated it, as every DOP should)

8.⁠ ⁠This wide shot was made by duplicating Laylizzy. He had to sit in every single chair for us to composite the whole scene 👻

9.⁠ ⁠No rails, no problem. doing the job.

𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗼 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝘇

In “IN THE SHADE BENEATH THE WAVES” Pablo Crutzen Diaz questions the increasing interference of humans in the marine environment. The phenomenon of overtourism sees the number of people on the world’s coastlines growing every year.
Since uninhabited islands have long ceased to exist, Homo turisticus makes a jarring intrusion into all the shallow waters of the globe.
This indiscreet incursion is illustrated by the artist using a camera setup similar to that of an ordinary tourist but turned back against its creator. Based on a subjective visual and sound interpretation, he invites us to imagine what the fauna or flora might feel during these
incursions.

What are they? Increasingly numerous as the day gets longer.
