Ashbourne & District named All Ireland Lions Club of the year, 2021
Lions Club Ireland held its 51st national convention on Saturday 6th March and due to ongoing restrictions it was a virtual event. Representatives from over 100 clubs across the island of Ireland attended. Each year, a number of awards are handed out to acknowledge the amazing work members perform on a daily basis. One of the most coveted awards is the Club of Year and for the first time in its 29 year history Ashbourne and District Lions Club was announced as "All Ireland Lions Club of the Year 2021".
Our President, Kathleen Cullen , said “the members were truly delighted and honoured to receive such a prestigious award. The award is for each and every member to celebrate. It is also acknowledgement of the incredible community spirit we have in Ashbourne. Without the support of the community at large and the business community we could not deliver the help and support needed.”
District Governor Des Ryan presented the award and said that “the success of Ashbourne Lions is based on the continued tireless work the club members perform in the local community”. DG Ryan acknowledged “the energy and enthusiasm of the club members as a key to its success”. DG Ryan also mentioned the innovation and can do attitude of the club in these times of restrictions.
