Big news & a massive win for the industry!

Thanks to the tireless work of all those involved, the government has just announced the Events Sector Covid Support Scheme (ESCSS). This is a once-off €11.5m funding allocation, targeted to support SME's operating in the events sector.

Full details of the scheme can be found here: https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/7f483-guidelines-for-the-events-sector-covid-support-scheme/

To be eligible for this scheme the business must have been ineligible for support under the Covid Restrictions Support Scheme (CRSS) operated by Revenue.

The scheme will be open for applications from 1pm on Wednesday 4 August to 1pm on 31 August 2021.

There will be a lot of interest in applying for this fund, so please don’t delay in getting your application in!

Well done to the board of the EII, as well as our colleagues in Event Industry Association of Ireland, Event Industry Alliance, Irish Exhibition Organisers Association & EPIC WORKING GROUP

Please note that this scheme will operate with a limited fund of €11.5 million. Due to the high volume of applications anticipated, it may not be possible to allocate funding to all eligible applicants. Applications will be considered strictly by order of date and time of receipt by the department...

The Eii attended two successful meetings this week. First, we joined the Hospitality & Tourism Forum with the Tanaiste & Minister Martin and yesterday we met with Minster Troy.

We finally have some valuable updates and new scheme information for our industry. Please see below:

- The scheme to support Event Companies will be a one-off payment of €50K / 5% of turnover towards overheads. We expect a formal announcement and application details in the coming weeks.
- EWSS to be continued until the end of the year at least
- Tax Warehousing to be extended beyond 2022
- We are working on dates for the reopening of indoor and outdoor events
- The Tax Debt Warehousing Scheme will be extended to the end of 2021, with interest-free period through 2022. COVID related liabilities will then start to be paid from 1 January 2023.
- The Covid 19 Credit Guarantee Scheme is still available to businesses – loans from €10k up to €1m w 12 months both interest and capital moratoriums.

The Eii is here to keep you updated on important industry news. We hope to have some more updates in the coming weeks, with big plans to get our industry back on track!

EII are continuing to engage with the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment & the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media on priorities for Business Events Companies, including:

- CRSS style payments for Event Businesses
- Extension of COVID-19 supports into 2021

This follows EII board member Roisin's recent meeting with Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar T.D. and Minister Catherine Martin T.D. as part of the Hospitality & Tourism Forum, where she highlighted the need for increased support for Business Events Companies.

EII member Roisin Callaghan attended the Tourism & Hospitality forum last week with An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar T.D. & Minister Catherine Martin T.D. to press the issues faced by business events companies. The forum addressed the urgent need for equal treatment for companies in the sector, particularly those that cannot access financial supports. EII members & members of Event Industry Alliance continue to fight for all businesses in our sector – make your experience known via the industry survey. "The Government has said we can't work but they are not helping us to not work."

Check out this article by RTÉ Business Editor Will Goodbody , including EII board member Roisin Callaghan highlighting how the new Covid-19 Business Aid scheme falls woefully short for our industry

Businesses operating in the events, exhibitions and trade show sectors have expressed their disappointment at a new Government scheme designed to help them survive through the pandemic.

13/02/2021

EII met with Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment – Robert Troy TD yesterday in relation to the Orphan Company Scheme that was announced this week. We highlighted the fact that this CBAS scheme does not meet the needs of many of our members and that we need more funding to keep our businesses alive. We will continue this dialogue with him and will keep pushing on behalf of the industry.

10/02/2021

EII are very disappointed with the level of funding that has been announced for Event Management Companies in the new CBAS fund. This scheme was supposed to “support” the event industry companies and other “orphan companies” that have been excluded from the CRSS scheme. The maximum support on offer is €8,000 which will do nothing to support companies in our our struggling industry. We need to be treated with fairness and equality.

Please stand up and tag your local T.D. in the comments, we need meaningful support and engagement, we need it now.

The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar TD today (Tuesday 9 February) announced €160m for measures to help businesses during the pandemic. These were agreed by Cabinet today.
