Mercier Press

Mercier Press Ireland’s Oldest Independent Publishing House. Mercier Press was founded in 1944 by Captain Seán and Mary Feehan.

The publishing house was named after Cardinal Mercier of Belgium, a man who in his day, proved himself not only a man of thought, whose mind ranged over every subject of vital interest to humanity but a man of action in the varying circumstances of a life that shone before the eyes of a watching world. The voice of Cardinal Mercier could not be stilled and Mercier Press is proud to borrow from him

the inspiration for its publishing programme, which is a belief in the importance of Ireland's ability to provide accessible histories and cultural books for Irish readers and all who are interested in Irish cultural life.

As the days are shorter and the nights colder, do you find yourself reaching for more comfort food? Having an extra biscuit or two?

Swiss psychiatrist Dr Gregor Hasler challenges modern nutrition science by revealing that food is far more than calories and carbohydrates.

How you eat matters more than what you eat.

Through groundbreaking research combining neuroscience with ancient wisdom he shows how mindful eating activates healing systems we never knew we had, and investigates whether social isolation — even something as simple as drinking alone rather than sharing a glass with others— could impact health more than diet alone.

This revolutionary guide moves beyond telling you what to eat and instead reveals what it truly means to be nourished by reconnecting with whole foods eating rituals, community dining and the transformation of nutritional energy through practices rooted in both cutting-edge science and mystical traditions that have sustained human health for millennia.

❗COVER REVEAL ❗

Your grandmother was right about food, and science is starting to prove it.

WHAT NOURISHES US explores how Swiss psychiatrist Dr Gregor Hasler challenges modern nutrition science by revealing that food is far more than isolated nutrients and that the physical structure of whole foods — what he calls The Food Matrix — fundamentally changes how our bodies process nutrition. Drawing from real medical cases including a tragic story of a young woman who died despite receiving perfect intravenous nutrition Hasler demonstrates why people in Blue Zones live to 100+ eating supposedly 'unhealthy' foods because they understand that how you eat matters more than what you eat.

For readers of Michael Pollan and anyone ready to escape the confusion of modern nutrition advice to find the path back to real health.

Step back into a hidden chapter of Irish history with historian James Durney's new book, SPECIAL POWERS!

Mercier Press invites you to the launch of the untold story of Ireland’s forgotten prisoners. Discover the bitter truth of civil war internment at Newbridge Barracks and Tintown Camp between 1922 and 1924, where over 5,500 republican prisoners faced a regime of ex*****ons and brutality at the hands of their former comrades.

Learn how former allies became ruthless captors, leading to the deaths of over two dozen internees. Despite the harsh realities, the prisoners' spirit led to legendary mass escapes and Ireland's largest hunger strike.

Drawing on primary sources, Durney unveils the final battles of the Civil War fought behind the wire, shining a light on this dark, long-hidden episode. Among the internees were future leaders and influential figures such as Ernie O’Malley, Peadar O’Donnell, Seán Lemass, and John Higgins.

COVER REVEAL!

The explosive conclusion to Ireland's revolutionary saga — where former comrades turn guns on each other in Dublin's blood-soaked streets and a nation's dream of freedom becomes a nightmare of civil war.

MANY OF OUR BEST LIE THERE explores unforgettable characters and stories, such as the almost supernatural warnings ignored before Michael Collins, Ireland's most charismatic leader, met his tragic fate. Follow legendary figures like Harry Boland, Ernie O'Malley and Joe O'Connor as they navigate betrayal, capture and the psychological scars of revolution.

Gripping military action unfolds from seaborne National Army landings to mass IRA prison escapes, as urban guerrilla warfare brings Dublin to its knees and former allies turn their guns on each other.

Dark historical truths reveal 'The Terror' — the state-sanctioned brutality that averaged more than one frequently botched ex*****on per day in January 1923, showing how revolutionary ideals corrupted under the pressure of civil war.

No other series puts you this close to the action, in the trenches and safe houses with the actual participants. This isn't just military history — it's friendship betrayed, ideals corrupted and a nation's birth trauma that still echoes today. Think 'Game of Thrones', but it really happened — in Ireland's bloodiest year.

This is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand how modern Ireland was truly born — not just in the glory of 1916–1921, but in the ashes of civil war.
