Statement from Cllr. Declan Burgess, Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council

"I am deeply concerned by the recent and subtle removal of outpatient hospital transport services across South Tipperary. Over the past number of weeks, I have witnessed several cases where transport for hospital appointments has been abruptly cancelled, causing significant distress and confusion for vulnerable outpatients.

These cancellations appear to have occurred without clear communication or justification, leaving many patients struggling to access essential medical care. I have raised urgent questions as to why so many individuals, previously eligible for this transport support, have now been left without it.

I am currently examining the criteria governing access to this service and have formally written to the HSE to express my concerns and seek clarity. Our communities deserve transparency, fairness, and above all, support in accessing critical healthcare".

Cllr. Declan Burgess has raised concerns over the sudden and unexplained cancellation of outpatient hospital transport services in South Tipperary, which has left many vulnerable patients without support.

He has written to the HSE seeking clarity and is reviewing the service criteria.

🚨 Urgent Appeal from the Irish Blood Transfusion Service 🚨

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) has issued a PRE-AMBER alert as of 7th October 2024, and this alert remains in force. We urgently need your help to support the national blood supply.

📅 Blood Donation Clinics: 📍 The Dome, Semple Stadium, Thurles
🗓️ Tuesday 29th, Wednesday 30th & Thursday 31st October 2024

New Donors Welcome!

The IBTS is urgently seeking an additional 2,000 blood donations over the next 4 weeks. Most blood groups have fallen to under 3 days of stock. We aim to have a 7-day supply, but current levels are critically low.

Key Points:
• O negative, A negative, and B negative are under 3 days of supply.
• O positive (nearly half the population) is very low at 3.5 days.
• High hospital demand and upcoming Bank Holiday require nearly 500 extra donations per week.

How You Can Help:
• Regular donors: Please make an extra effort to attend upcoming clinics, especially in Dublin and Cork.
• New donors: Visit giveblood.ie to take the quick eligibility test and call 1800 731137 to make an appointment.
• We particularly encourage new donors of African Heritage to join the National blood donor panel to help diversify the donor base and get better blood type matches for patients.

For the first time in local history, Tipperary’s Sheela Ni Gig’s entire collection has been meticulously reproduced in clay, along with other antiquity stones. This exhibition ties together folklore, local history, and replica stones, all in one place. Created by local tattooist Brian Murphy over the past year, this installation allows you to view and discuss the Sheela’s imagery and complexity as a whole collection.

Shrouded in mystery and mostly lost to history, these elusive figurines have baffled minds for centuries. Join us on a journey of discovery and delve into the unanswered questions of these Hibernian Mystery Stones. Where folklore, history, and mysticism meet, the mind is sure to follow.

Don’t miss this unique and free interpretation of one of Ireland’s most esoteric characters, the magical Sheela Ni Gig!
