Marked trails like the Sugarloaf Way don’t appear by magic. They’re the result of ongoing collaboration, goodwill, and hard work — often by landowners (private, state, or semi-state) and volunteers — to make these incredible routes accessible to all.

This week, our team was out maintaining parts of the Sugarloaf Way to ensure it remains a safe and welcoming place for walkers. These trails are a gift — part of our shared landscape — but that gift comes with a responsibility: respect for the land, for those who live and work on it, and for fellow users.

One major issue stood out: the amount of dog faeces was frankly embarrassing. Why do we think this is okay?

If you bring your dog:

Pick up after it.

Don’t leave bags in bushes — that’s not “cleaning up,” that’s littering.

Keep your dog on a lead — if you don’t know where your dog is, you don’t know where it’s going to the toilet.

Dog ownership comes with civic responsibility. Let’s keep these trails beautiful, respectful, and usable — for everyone.

Thank you to all who care and do the right thing. Let’s keep setting the standard. And call people out for civic disrespect. ENOUGH. . .
