😳I have to admit, I felt like an imposter when I tentatively put some of my encaustic artwork and monoprints into frames for the first time last year, and submitted a handful of pieces to gallery member exhibitions. Although I spent plenty of hours in the fine art & printmaking departments of the college, my degree qualifications are in design. I’ve worked as a graphic designer for most of my adult life, which wasn’t conducive to me thinking of myself as an “artist”. It blows my mind to acknowledge that I have sold a total of 11 framed original encaustic paintings so far this year 🤯🥰😱 My art is going on walls in people’s homes 🤩

The majority of these sales came from galleries and exhibitions, which I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be part of. And to have people reach out through Instagram to purchase my art is an incredible honour.

When I think back to the time I bought the kit after seeing Michael Blossom doing a fantastic demo back in the late nineties, I realise that I have been creating wax landscape paintings on and off over 25 years! I used to sell a lot of greeting cards, each with an original mini wax landscape. That didn’t make me feel like an “artist” but in the last two years, with the support and encouragement of the creative community in Cork and West Cork, I have been growing into that role 🤗

I will always be a designer, a maker, a crafter, a creative… but maybe I am an artist too 🥰Thanks to everyone who has purchased my artwork this year and supported me on this artist journey. Here’s to growing, learning and exploring!

Skies heavy with snow clouds echo the colours of the Northern Lights over stormy seas, frosty hills and frozen lakes, while the trees and foliage trace frost patterns across the landscape.

I am so excited about this new Wintery colour palette I’m using that I couldn’t wait to show you some of my latest miniature wax paintings! I painted these scenes from my imagination. Do they exist somewhere in the world? Perhaps. I live in West Cork, Ireland, and our beautiful landscape along the coast is constantly changing with the weather. Maybe I saw a landscape like these at some point and those stunning colours left a mark in my memory.

I will be framing these soon- they will have black mounts and black wood frames, and I am really looking forward to it.

Miniature portals to the West Cork Coast, my latest art pieces are painted with melted wax onto tiny wooden panels measuring less than 2 inches across.

I adore capturing the essence of these beautiful beaches within such a minute surface. You don’t need a huge wall space to hang these! Find a quiet corner, a small shelf, a narrow console, and feel yourself being transported to this vast space- a world of natural wonder where the sky meets the ocean, the wind whips through and the waves are wild ✨🌊

✨You can now discover my handmade earrings, button badges, crochet bunting, flower hair clips, knitted cowl scarves and more on my shelf at the wonderful gift shop & art gallery .cork.collective in Ballinspittle Village, alongside my encaustic wax landscape paintings and ready-to-frame original encaustic art greeting cards 🥰

If you’ve been following me for a while, you might remember that I joined West Cork Collective as a gallery member when it opened in March. I’m so excited to offer more handcrafted gifts for sale in the shop along with my encaustic art and to be part of the retail section.

🧶🧵I love to knit, crochet and sew, especially while watching a tv series in the evenings. So you can expect to see more crochet bunting, flower hair clips & brooch pins, as well as some more seasonal items that I’m working on.

Where possible, I try to use what I have available at home, or materials I have sourced secondhand or been given as scraps/remnants. My button badges are usually crafted from old magazines, calendars, flyers and brochures that were destined for the recycling bin. I love to repurpose broken pieces from my kids’ toys into unique, fun earrings. The LEGO earrings are crafted from preloved bricks only- I don’t buy new LEGO to make these, so they are made in small quantities, depending on what I have available.

Check out the gorgeous bowls and mugs by sitting above and below my shelf 😍 I adore the blues and greens in Abby’s work.

I’m so excited to show you a slow project I’ve been working on in the evenings on and off for the past year or so! A few years ago I joined a Mixed Textiles class at the local College of Further Education & Training. Two of the modules were crochet and knitting. We were tasked with making many small rectangular samples of all the different stitches. I bought a pack of Scheepjes Stone Washed / River Washed from which included many colours of gorgeous yarn in small balls so that I could use a different colour for each stitch.

I didn’t want to keep all the finished pieces stuck in a folder, unused. After the class assessment, my plan was to sew them together to make a patchwork cushion. I finally managed to finish the cushion! There were quite a few areas that I had to crochet or knit small pieces to fill the gaps, but I used up all the colourful scraps that I had to hand. I also used up the last of the balls to crochet the back of the cushion to the right size.

It’s completely wonky and no, I didn’t block it 😅 but that doesn’t bother me. I’m really happy that I made something beautiful and functional with my own hands. I’m back to making crochet bunting now, and patchwork of a different kind 😉

And I made the other three cushions you see in the photos, in the sewing & upholstery classes in the wonderful , all from scraps or repurposed fabrics. The bolster cushion used to be an old skirt with a broken zip which I bought from a charity shop.

Let me know what you think.
