Wild ONES Forever!!

One of our favourite cuts from Altameda’s album, ‘Crazy Blue’!!

‘Lyrically, writing ‘Wild One Forever’ felt like trying to catch smoke. It’s not a linear song — it lives in mood more than anything concrete. It’s meant to feel like a slow cruise through the desert, with the horizon melting in technicolor. The arrangement lent itself to something esoteric and evocative. I tried to mirror how the arrangement made me feel. Musically, it has an obvious psychedelic feel. In some ways it felt like scoring a dream sequence — the arrangement is lush and layered, but is grounded by the acoustic guitars and the rhythm section holding things down in a way that feels hypnotic and propulsive. It feels like we really broke new ground with this song stylistically, and we’re excited to see where that can take us.’ - Altameda

Take it a little trip to ‘Uncertain Country’ 🧭🗺️📍

‘From the creative oeuvre of Adam Vollick, it chronicles a trip in canoes on Manitoulin Island, Ontario and flashes forward to the recording sessions on-location at the Oddfellows Hall in St. Catharines, Ontario back in August 2020.’ - GLS

‘“Life Is a Desert” describes how the world keeps going, dry and wide, and most days you can’t see where it ends. But you know that somewhere out there beyond the horizon there’s a body of water. All you have to do is keep pressing on.

We recorded this song a few years ago, and have been sitting on it for what feels like a lifetime. We tried a couple different saxophone solos for the outro, and finally landed on our friend Joseph Shabasons beautiful take. Very happy to finally have it out there in the world.’

‘the song spans two provinces - it was written at a cottage in the rideau lakes, ontario, and recorded at another cottage in the laurentians, quebec. we wanted those idyllic summer surroundings to be captured in the recording, with its bright, ethereal melodies and, if you listen closely, the chirping of birds and rhythmic waves from a nearby lake. lyrically, dreamer dives into the self-doubt associated with the creative process while also encouraging positivity in the face of struggling relationships‘ - LC

Simply stunning.

’Full ‘last days’ album came out last Friday. I listen to it and find peace in it. Such a new musical direction with piano/cello/harp, barely any words, but probably the most feeling I can remember putting into music, something so different. I decided to treat the release day as a ‘non-release’ mostly just rejecting the way artists need to be online sharing / promoting / advertising their art. At times it is so anti-art in the way it demands.

Instead we went boating / seal hunting / fishing, shared nice messages with friends, watched Stranger Things with my favs, smiled at lots of boats returning with caribou and whale, drank yummy coffee, gave my nephew his first pocket knife (he was so excited) and listened to a nice CBC Music radio show about how water can inspire us to make our communities better. Huge love for Gisle Henriet, Terry Uyarak, Jaqqa, and James and Jace (haha more of my friends have less social media), my creative loves, and V (who helped shoot the video!), B, A and S my family loves with J, H, K, H, and especially Rob for lending us his truck so much this summer
