The Central Bank of Ireland has today launched two collector coins commemorating the 90th anniversary of the death of Michael Collins. A €20 gold proof coin and a €10 silver proof coin have both been issued and are available individually and as a set. The coins were designed by artist Thomas Ryan and feature a portrait of Michael Collins. The obverse side of the coin features the harp, as with all collector and circulating coins.

Winners of Businesswoman of the Year – Self Employed: Natasha Lynch, Essential French, Businesswoman of the Year – New Business: Irene Twohig, The Cheswick Clinic and Businesswoman of the Year – Employee: Deirdre O’Shaughnessy, The Cork Independent at the 2012 Network Cork - Women in Business Awards Business Luncheon in Jacobs on the Mall, Cork City.

The event is one of the highlights of the year for Network Cork, part of a national organisation for women in business, profession and the arts. Guest speaker at the event was well known Broadcaster and TV Presenter, Miriam O’Callaghan, and over 100 business women attended, celebrating the wealth of talent, diversity and tenacity of women in business in Cork.

Cork Chamber today welcomed the announcement that Apple will create 500 new jobs in its European headquarters in Cork over the next 18 months.

Commenting Cork Chamber President John Mullins said “Apple is a leading global company and a key employer in the Cork region and this announcement confirms that it will have a long future in the city. This significant reinvestment shows Apple’s confidence in Cork and the Ireland and strengthens Cork’s well-established ICT sector.”

Mr. Mullins concluded “Apple’s expansion provides a significant boost to the regional economy and credit must be given to the local management and staff of Apple for their hard work and dedication to the company. The Chamber also wish to congratulate IDA Ireland, the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and Cork City and County Councils for their work to secure this project.”
