Statement from Diplomat Ireland

“On this the 4th anniversary of the unlawful and unacceptable war perpetrated by Russia against the Sovereign nation of Ukraine, we stand in full solidarity with the people of Ukraine, your democratically elected President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, your Ambassador to Ireland H.E. Larysa Gerasko of the Embassy of Ukraine to Ireland and the people throughout the world who condemn the unlawful invasion of your country by its vicious aggressor. This full scale invasion of a democratic State led by an out of control Vladimir Putin sought to rebuild his nation with an outdated and century old strategy that has failed his people and left the nation with over 55,000 soldiers dead and over 1.2m casualties. The international world must and should hold Putin and Russia fully accountable for this blatant violation of international law that has gone on too long and so far has claimed the lives of up to 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers and has left 500,000 brave Ukrainians injured. These are people just trying to defend their motherland, like we would try to defend our motherland. This unprovoked attack by Russia four years ago today is an attack on the world order of democracy and freedom and a direct threat to European security. Diplomacy is the process for resolving issues of conflict, not military action and Russia and Putin have lied to the world in their attempts to take control of their neighbour. The western world must now stand more fully united behind Ukraine, her people and her right to choose her own political and legislative destiny, and Russia as the aggressor must now face the toughest response and further sanctions that the world can give them for this appalling, unacceptable and egregious act of war.”

Thanks to His Excellency Dr. Lahcen Mahraoui the Ambassador of His Majesty The King of Morocco to Ireland at Morocco in Ireland, who paid a working visit to the Port of Cork yesterday, where he met with the port’s senior management to discuss opportunities for enhanced maritime cooperation.

Today, we remember all Jewish victims of the Holocaust, as well as the genocide of the Roma, and the many other victims of N**i atrocities, including those who were murdered for their political or religious beliefs, cultural or ethnic identity, sexual orientation or disability status. We honour them today through remembrance, and every day by continuing to champion human rights and rule of law.

Inniu, cuimhnímid ar gach íospartach Giúdach an Uileloiscthe, fara cinedhíothú na Romach, agus na n-íospartach iomadúil eile ó uafáis na Naitsithe, lena n-áirítear iad siúd a maraíodh mar gheall ar a gcreideamh polaitiúil nó reiligiúnach, a bhféiniúlacht chultúrtha nó eitneach, a gclaonadh gnéasach nó a stádas míchumais. Tugaimid ómós dóibh inniu trí chuimhneachán, agus gach lá trí leanúint orainn ag tacú le cearta an duine agus leis an smacht reachta.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is in China for an official visit to Beijing and Shanghai.

The Taoiseach's programme in Beijing will include meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Chairman of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji.

In these meetings, he discussed Ireland’s bilateral relationship with China, including our important economic and trading relationship; EU-China relations; and shared global challenges. At a time of global turbulence, he emphasised the importance of effective multilateral institutions to promote peace and security, and to ensure a fair trading environment.

The Taoiseach will also engage with Irish and Chinese business leaders and investors, across a broad range of sectors, including financial services, further and higher education, and food and beverages.

Karameh crossing is the West Bank's only link to the rest of the world. It borders Jordan to our east and is the lung of the West Bank enabling movement of people and vital goods.

Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu has closed this crossing

3 million Palestinians rely on Karameh crossing

While its genocide continues in Gaza, Israel is now laying siege to the West Bank turning it into a large, sealed prison.

Palestine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and our Embassies and ministries around the world, demand the mobilisation of international pressure on the occupying state to reopen Karameh crossing immediately.
