We are deeply saddened to learn about the death of Emeritus Professor of History, Tom Dunne formerly of the School of History, UCC. A few weeks ago, Tom delivered an address on the history of the Press at our Through the Years exhibition launch in UCC Library. We were grateful to such a brilliant scholar, a firm supporter and former leader of the Press, for telling our story.
 
Last year we were honoured to publish his story, The Good Boy – his 2024 memoir. May he rest in peace.

We are deeply saddened to hear about the death of Elizabeth (Libby) Wincott Heckett. She was a leading scholar on the archaeological textiles of Ireland and gained worldwide recognition for her pioneering work on the tenth-century Viking Dublin headcoverings which became known as the ‘Dublin Cap’.  She will be dearly missed by UCC colleagues, archaeologists, historians and the wider academic and heritage community.

Her work will allow new generations with an interest in Ireland's archaeological history to build on this important research. We at Cork University Press are proud to have published her life's work edited by Mary Ann Williams in November 2024.

We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely passing of our dear author and friend, Dr Gabriel Doherty. Co-editor of The Art and Ideology of Terence MacSwiney (2022), he was also a contributor to our recent Atlas of the Irish Civil War. His valued contribution to Irish history will be remembered. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
