Best of luck to our colleagues Anne O’Callaghan and Martin O’Connor at the Academic and Special Libraries Conference today!
Martin is presenting and his paper is titled Shush! Sounds from UCC Library: Building Connections and Library Champions Through Music and Conversation. He explories how the radio show strengthens relationships between UCC Library and the wider university community—one song at a time.
On the show UCC staff share their favorite music while reflecting on their roles and how the library supports them. The show creates a space for personal expression and professional insight, turning guests into library champions and fostering deeper connections in a fun and engaging way.
Anne is presenting via a poster titled "Building Connections, One Book at a Time through UCC Library’s inclusive and collaborative thematic book displays". These displays, located on the ground floor of the Boole Library, offer carefully curated selections from the general collection, tying into significant cultural events like Black History Month, International Women’s Day, and Cork Pride, as well as key UCC initiatives such as Bystander Intervention Week and Equality Week. Collaboration is central, with UCC departments and student societies co-curating displays to reflect their interests and activities. Social media amplifies these efforts, broadening reach and engagement, while borrowing rates and student feedback help measure impact. By creating dynamic, welcoming spaces, these displays foster inclusivity, encourage student engagement, and support wellbeing.
