🌝📽 OPENING NIGHT GALA SCREENING
"A QUIET LOVE" (12A)(2025)
Dir. by Garry Keane
Extremely proud to be launching FMFF26 with this moving, groundbreaking documentary that follows three deaf couples, each navigating love, family, & life’s extraordinary challenges. Told in a mixture of Irish & British Sign Language, with open captions, the film offers a rare, intimate glimpse into experiences often unseen.
It is Ireland’s first feature film in Irish Sign Language, produced by a Deaf and hearing team for Curious North Productions & directed by award-winning filmmaker Garry Keane.
John & Agnes ( from The Silent Valley area ) , a long-married, mixed-religion couple, reflect on life together & the realities of living through the Troubles. Michelle & Kathy share their journey as a same-sex couple, from IVF to raising both hearing and deaf daughters. Deaf boxer Seán and his hearing partner Deyanna face a profoundly difficult choice, revealing the pressures and joys of their intertwined lives.
Following the screening, audiences are invited to join a guest Q+A with John & Agnes, who we are thrilled to have joining us. The Q+A will include BSL interpretation, with thanks to Screen Ireland and Coimisiún na Meán for access support, offering a unique opportunity to hear directly from the couple behind this remarkable story.
Ultimately, A QUIET LOVE celebrates resilience, belonging, and love in all its forms. A charming, deeply humane work, that we are so proud to be launching our Fest with 🥰📽
