THE FOUNDER DIARIES: AUGUST.

A new monthly series sharing the good, the bad and the parts of building a business that don’t usually make it onto Instagram.
Because the highlights you see online aren’t always rainbows, sunshine and seamless growth.

More often than not, there’s a slightly chaotic reality unfolding behind the scenes and August gave me plenty to talk about.

I’ve struggled with comparison myself, so this is your reminder that even when someone’s business looks like it’s flying, you rarely know what it has taken to keep it in the air.

No polished version. No pretending I’ve got it all figured out.

Swipe for what worked, what went wrong and what I’m changing.

Q2 was one of those seasons that completely stretched me.

The kind where you’re so busy building that you forget to stop and look at how far
you’ve actually come.

Over the last few months I’ve...
✨ Delivered 20+ content days.
🚀 Helped launch new businesses.
🎤 Had the opportunity to speak about marketing at a business summit.
🐶 Became a dog mum.
🤍 Watched Be Social East Mids continue to grow.
🏢 Said yes to one of the biggest chapters in my business so far.

There were early starts, late nights, plenty of coffee, a few challenges, lots of lessons and more moments where I questioned myself than I’d probably like to admit.
But if there’s one thing Q2 taught me, it’s this...

The life you’re working so hard for doesn’t appear overnight. It gets built through hundreds of ordinary days where you keep showing up, even when nobody’s watching.
So here’s to Q3.

Everyone is talking about AI.

Meanwhile, one of the most valuable assets in my business is a Notion workspace.
Not because it helps me create content
faster.

Because it helps me create a better experience.

From onboarding and strategy to content approvals, calendars, launches and communication, every client has a dedicated space built around their business.

Over the years, this system has evolved massively. I’ve built a lot of it myself, but I’d be lying if I said I did it alone. Because contrary to popular belief, I am only one woman and unfortunately cannot be in seventeen places at once.

A huge thank you to Fiodhna, who has helped me refine, strengthen and bring so much of this together behind the scenes.

Because the reality is, when you’re managing multiple clients, leading a team, running an agency and juggling two businesses, good intentions aren’t enough.
You need systems.

I’ve worked with some clients for over 2 years.

Not because I’m the cheapest. Not because I’m the loudest. Because I understand their businesses.

And that’s something no AI tool, template, or content calendar can replace.

The content is what people see. The understanding is what keeps clients around.

I think social media often shows the milestones without the moments it took to get there.

The launches.
The growth.
The success.
The “she did it” moments.

But behind every one of those milestones for me was sacrifice, pressure, grief, exhaustion, self-doubt and a decision to keep going anyway.

This carousel is probably one of the most honest things I’ve shared online in a long time.

Because entrepreneurship can be beautiful and incredibly hard at the same time.
And I think more people need to know that both can exist together 🤍

I used to wear being busy like a badge of honour’

Running around, doing everything, saying yes to everything… thinking that meant I was building something successful.
Truthfully? I was just exhausted.

The last while has forced me to slow down
whether I liked it or not… and it’s made me realise how many things I believed about ‘success’ were actually just pressure I put on myself.

And I know I’m not the only one.
So here’s your reminder you don’t have to run yourself into the ground to build something successful.

What’s one thing you’ve had to unlearn in business?

I’m turning 30 in a few weeks… swipe to see the eras that got me here.

For the longest time, I dreaded it.
I thought I’d have everything figured out by now.

A clear path. A perfect plan. Certainty.
Instead, my 20s were full of eras.
Some made sense.
Some didn’t.

Some felt like setbacks at the time.
But every single one led me here.
From nursing (for 6 months 😂),
to teaching,
to travelling the world,
to building not one but two businesses.

None of it was linear.
None of it was overnight.

And that’s the part people don’t always see.
Now?
I’m not scared of 30.
I’m stepping into it with a team, a business I built from the ground up, and a version of myself I had to grow into.

Every era served a purpose.
Even the ones that made no sense at the time.

Rating things that happened in February… strap in.

Swipe to discover my honest ratings of the month; I’m diving into the highs, the chaos, and the reality of running two businesses.

Time for some business honesty.
Owning two businesses isn’t always the polished highlight reel you see online…

My most valuable social media tool isn’t an app.

It’s a scruffy notebook full of client notes: full of language preferences, tone reminders, launch plans, and the tiny details that shape how they show up.

I’ve worked with some clients for over 2 years, and honestly, I swear it’s touches like this that build that level of trust.
...I cant be the only one, with something like this?

Last week I said no to the biggest opportunity of my career.

A major beauty retail brand asked me to lead their organic social strategy and head a huge campaign.

Three years ago I would have said yes instantly.

But both of my businesses are growing, my team is expanding, and I’m not stepping away from what I’ve built.

Learning to say no has been one of the most important skills in business.
Not every big opportunity is the right one.

CEO energy. Questionable life admin.
I run businesses. I lead a team. I make big decisions daily.

But I still forget my tea, overthink emails, and absolutely do not have my life together in the way people assume.

And yes… there is a very real list of words I still have to double-check how to spell 🤣
