Open for Business: Bar 1661

Tucked away on Green Street, Bar 1661 has become one of Dublin’s most celebrated cocktail bars since opening in 2019.

Named after the year poitín was outlawed in Ireland, this spot has built its reputation around championing the country’s native spirit through a menu of inventive, award-winning cocktails.

More than just a cocktail bar, Bar 1661 has played a key role in bringing poitín back into the spotlight, introducing a new generation to one of Ireland’s oldest spirits while showcasing its versatility in every glass.

June is here and the city is full of tourists, while everyone you know has decamped to a field in Wicklow. You’re at home, deep in festival FOMO, doomscrolling shaky stories of “life-changing” sets and VIP yurts.

Before you spiral, remember: festivals are mostly mud, wind, queues, and broken tents at 3am.

So here are a few ways to survive the weekend without buying into the hype—or a Sunday ticket you don’t actually want🫠

Suggested By You - Goat in the Boat

An overwhelmingly popular spot, this truly is a family-run business like no other and we’ll be singing their praises until the cows come home.

The Goat in the Boat is one of the most impressive operations we’ve seen, with attention to detail and love of the game driving everything they do.
Their gelato, which is all made in house, is absolutely incredible. Their takes on classic flavours like vanilla, hazelnut, and pistachio absolutely knock it out of the park.

We also had to try out their pastries, which (you guessed it) are also made in-house. Everything we tried was exceptional - we’ll be dreaming of that white chocolate and coconut tart for years to come. No surprises here, but their coffee is also great - they proudly serve up 3fe, one of our favourites!

We can confidently say that they’re the GOAT (we’re sorry, we had to)
