MyOldBuilding

MyOldBuilding Knowledge is Power It will offer advice on things to watch when hiring professionals.

My Old Building is a web resource for owners of older buildings which will save you TIME and MONEY, unnecessary hassle and potentially avert property related disasters by empowering you to get the essential knowledge you need to be better able to look after your old building, or the dwelling you call home. You will be able to find practical tips on everyday essential maintenance as well as other p

erennially essential information which will help you to make more informed decisions about when it is necessary to call in outside help and what kind of key things you should look out for when hiring these outisde professionals. It will hopefully encourage you to learn more about the care of your property by sharing experiences of the author as well as those of visitors to the site. It will suggest books that you can read, review courses that you can participate on and review essential tools and equipment that no homeowner should be without. The majority of crisis involving third parties relate to a failure to communicate clearly and effectively from the outset of a project. The site won’t offer definitive answers or solutions of a scientific or engineering nature but it will suggests ideas designed to empower you, the property owner/occupier, to be able to think for yourselves and question the ideas of others rather than always being totally dependent on third parties when things goes wrong. Please do note that although this site is tailored towards the care and maintenance of old buildings, many of the ideas and principles may be applied to all types of property.

If you’re in Dublin over the next few weeks then a visit to Dublin Fragments, The Peter Pearson Collection, is thoroughly recommended. Peter Pearson is an artist, author of books on Dublin’s historic buildings and a savior of several buildings and numerous artifacts which now make up this fascinating collection. This exhibition includes a sales exhibition of Peter’s thoughtful captures (on canvas) of historic Dublin and is currently being hosted at the building on South William Street, Dublin 2. Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm until 22 March 2020.

It’s always nice to see new life breathed into old buildings. This premises on St Andrew’s Street in Dublin appeared dormant and unloved in recent times. Happily, this evening it was full of light and activity and it’s recently renewed internal decor appeared resplendent under the bright lights of the hair salon now occupying its ground floor.
