Helo -
Just a thought hey...I loved Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane's Somebody To Love....But what about the head to toe lickable Leslie Dowdal from In Tua Nua belting out her COVER.
Over!
Sinead O'Connor was a unique talent of course, but there were many more troubadours and performing bands knocking about circa 70s / 80s, you know like, thousands of them probably. And all of them sans top of the pops appearances banging out their bish-bash-bosh-bada-bing-bada-boom-rock.
Rock into Meavy Metal, Glam, Grunge and Garage. All of the above into Punk - into New Wave - and on into The New Romantics. There were any amount of musical mayhem mofos banging out their teenage rebellions in local school gym halls. I give you my first memory of Aslan in St Bridget's school in Finglas, and later what was 'This Is' on the big but never big enough for their majestic talent stages. They were good enough to be on the biggest stage of them all, any of them.
There wasn't only U2 larking in the park's, collegiately congregating in collage ballrooms, buried up their bolloxes in bohemian Bibi Baskin lookalike country cailíní. Who remembers 'The Flea Market's' music magicians Engine Alley, The Virgin Prunes, or wind it back a little bit further to a section of us Dub army lads up maneuvering - pogo dancing - around and about the pubs/ clubs/hotel's of Dundalk/Monaghan town to the Celtic Rock legend likes of The Horslips with their banshee belter Dearg Doom.
Long before gaming on wifi PlayStation, tearaway teenagers had Radio Caroline. Long before Simon Cowell, we had Rory Gallagher on Bob Harris's 'Old Grey Whistle Test' to help incite our right of passage contrarian usurpation sh*te.
And what are today's children of those same particular rebel teenagers/incels stamping their hoofs over/about on the graves of the preceding cult pop fashion now hey hey = mammy I have poor wi-fi COVER.
Out!
