*Have you had a live encounter with an shark, skate or ray in Irish waters?*

Then we would really appreciate hearing from you!

This May 2025 an international team of Shark Experts is coming to the European Atlantic region in an international effort to identify 'Important Shark and Ray Areas' (ISRA's) on a global scale. You can check out their work and where the team have already visited by heading to www.sharkandrayareas.org.

This is an amazing opportunity to show off the international importance of Irish waters for our sharks, skate and ray species but we need your help to make sure all the key areas are captured in the process!
This is purely for knowledge building and is not a legislative process but it is an amazing opportunity to showcase the importance of Irish territorial waters elasmobranch species!🦈🌊⛸

So if you have had an encounter with a Irish shark or skate species, be it an adult, juvenile or live eggcase, then we would really appreciate if you could upload your records directly to the Biodiversity Ireland platform at www.biodiversityireland.ie or for Basking sharks to www.baskingsharks.ie
