Today, UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science celebrated 100 years of the faculty's existence with the launch of a beautiful book to mark the milestone. 'The University of the Agricultural Community' - A History of Agriculture at UCD, 1926-2026, was written by Mark Duncan, and takes us on a journey of agricultural education and its evolution: the highs, the lows, the challenges, the opportunities, the innovation, the research, facing change, and embracing that change.
The event, held in O'Reilly Hall on the Belfied campus involved conversation with the author and Prof Karina Pierce, followed by a panel discussion with key representatives of Ireland's agri-sector, including some UCD agricultural science graduates. The book was officially launched by UCD president, Orla Feely. We were delighted to have been present!

What a cracker of an evening to visit one of the country's top-performing suckler farms, run by Teagasc FutureBeef farmers, John Pringle, his wife Linda, daughter Lucy, and sons William and Scott.
John farms 59 hectares on a narrow and long holding, yielding €4,500 per hectare in beef output.
His suckler herd is based on Simmental and Limousin-cross genetics, with breeding decisions focused firmly on fertility, milk production and carcass quality.
