The wonderful Rosemary Smith passed away yesterday, after a life of achievements. From her first rally in Kilkenny in 1959 to competing in Monte Carlo in 1961, winning the 1965 Tulip Rally to the London to Sydney/Mexico rallies, racing in Daytona and Sebring to being the oldest person to drive an F1 car at the age of 79, she did it all with determination, grace and good humour.

We were working together on a documentary about her life, called ‘The Fast and the Fabulous’ which will give the full story, and the recognition she deserved.

We’ve lost a very special person but she won’t be forgotten.

Sunflower Days are this Friday and Saturday and all the money raised goes to the hospice in that part of the country. This means, for instance, that the money raised in Galway will benefit Galway Hospice; in Cork, Marymount Hospice, and so on.

The level of care in all hospice services is second to none, and the importance of palliative and end of life care is becoming more apparent, not just for the patient, but their family too.

If you didn’t catch ‘Inside the Hospice’ on Virgin Media Television a few weeks ago, it’s available on the Player. It shows the reality of death and grief, in the environment of Our Lady's Hospice & Care Services.

In the meantime, Together For Hospice and it’s Sunflower Days fundraiser is so important to support, if you can.

Supporting the 2023 Hospice Sunflower Days campaign were Virgin Media presenters; Deric Ó h'Artagáin Karen Koster and Martin King. Not only were the guys on-hand at our launch in May, we received unwavering support from everyone in Virgin Media Television and Flawless Films throughout our entire campaign.
Hospices nationwide need to raise approximately €20million each year to continue the provision of vital end of life care in local communities.
