Our latest piece of short fiction is ‘Coues’ by Samuel Lawrence Sullivan, which is ready to read on our site now. Later this week, we’ll have a short interview with the writer available as well!

Sam Sullivan lives and works in the NYC metro area. He received his MFA in creative fiction writing from Fairfield University. His creative work has been featured in The New York Times Metropolitan Diary, Twelve Winters Journal, and The New Plains Review.

What a year it’s been! For our last piece of 2025, we’ve got a poem from Danielle Cahill () called ‘Mabon.’ The full poem is up on our site now.

Danielle Marie Cahill writes from leafy North London, where she lives with her family and two enchanting cats. She holds a degree in English from the University of Cambridge, and in 2024 she won the Caledonia Novel Award. Her credits include (amongst others) Witches, Witchology, Livina Press, Suburban Witchcraft, Underbelly Press, Quarter Press, Scribes Micro, Scribbled Online, MoonLit Getaway, Micromance, Apricot Press and Kaleidoscopic Minds magazines, she was a contributor to The Little Book of Birth Stories (Virago Press 2025), and her debut chapbook, Burnt Offerings, was published by Alien Buddha Press in September 2025, and it was also commended in Hedgehog Press’ summer 2025 pamphlet prize.

Happy holidays from The Wild Umbrella! Our piece this week comes from G. Quaid, called ‘Hidden Dips,’ and tells the story of a class reunion. This is her first published piece as a writer, and we’re thrilled that we were able to play a part in making that happen.

G. Quaid is a teacher and new writer. As an autistic person, she uses her experiences and observations of the world to create fiction, told from the perspective of a neurodivergent mind. Having lived a nomadic life around Ireland, she now resides in Cork.

This week we’re excited to publish a piece from poet Jay Rafferty ()! Called ‘The Bunny Tattoo,’ it’s available in full on our site now.

Jay Rafferty is a redhead, an uncle, an Irishman and an eejit. He is a guest lecturer on Irish Literature and poetry as well as the author of three poetry chapbooks. He was awarded a professional membership to the Irish Writer’s Centre by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland in 2024. You can read his work in several journals including Arcana Poetry Press, Broken Spine Arts, FU Review Berlin and New Word Order.
