So, a weird thing happened to me.
After another lengthy Covid lockdown in Ireland, yesterday was a red-letter day. We can now drive further, gather outdoors in small numbers AND, talk about excitement, hairdressers are open for business again – meaning I could finally fix my never out of my eyes fringe!
But knowing most Irish barbers are first come, first serve merchants, I figured it’d be weeks before I’d actually get a haircut. Ah well.
But then and by sheer chance...
..On my way home from a school run, I was amazed to see my local Barber's shop door wide open – long before their normal opening times AND there was NO queue!
And while thinking ‘no way’, I spot a single space in their tiny car park too! “Double no way!”
Zoom, zoom, I got into that space in a tick and seconds later was greeted by Dave, scissors in hand.
“Jaysus, you REALLY need a haircut” says he.
"Oh yeah", says I. "I’m fed up of my missus telling me I look like an early 80s Beatle who has gone to seed”
Ten minutes of snipping later Dave’s work was done and as I was leaving an old man noticed my smile and said:
“Isn't it amazing how lowering your ears can lift your mood?”
Wow. What a line and a timely reminder to celebrate little wins and moments of joy as we emerge anew.
