Dublin Digital Radio - ddr.

Dublin Digital Radio - ddr. Online community radio station representing a wealth of music, art and politics across Ireland. We are here to change that. Be surprised.

Dublin Digital Radio is an online digital radio station dedicated to providing a quality platform for the various communities striving to create a socially and culturally progressive city in a landscape netted with political stasis and tepid bureaucracy. We here at Dublin Digital Radio, believe it is time to break the mould with the medium of radio. The inanity of the licensed radios’ relationship

with advertisers, record labels, playlists and impartiality even when faced with the truth have no space on an online radio station that thrives on the medium it exists upon. Too long has the music scene in Ireland rip roared along without a radio platform to support it, to provide the link between what’s happening on the ground to the listener, the music lover that has been left behind by the cultural dearth on Irish national airwaves. Too long have social and political issues been silenced on the airwaves due to the puppet show of balance and too long off air are the days of the pirate radio when a degree of autonomy existed on the airwaves. DDR will be a platform for open ears delving into all that has been silenced, both musically and socially for too long. DDR will be a home in Ireland for all those with a passion for music, from the labels that are allowing the environment of independent Irish music to breathe to local DJ’s and music lovers, to those pushing the sound barriers on the classical end of things. DDR will be a space for conversations and debates, for stories and criticisms, a space to challenge all attempts to depoliticise culture. We want our listeners to fall in love again with radio and in the process creating a stronger environment for musicians, and listeners alike. Get your your router ready for DDR. Tune in every weekend.

Theatrophone, the collaborative project of Jane Deasy and Seán Finnan, presents Can You Confirm Receipt of My Transmission?, a work of sonic fiction created with radio anorak and field recordist EI6R1. Blending found sound, field recordings, archival audio, and SDR-captured transmissions, the piece explores the shifting sonic landscape of EI6R1’s hearing loss.

Rooted in the traditions of amateur radio, CYCRMT? moves through ghost frequencies, forgotten signals, and the intimate act of listening.

Theatrophone will broadcast this work on ddr. as part of Alternating Current.

~ AC 2025 Artist Detail ~

Odd Ned produces ethereal soundscapes and murky riddims using a mishmash of analogue and digital machines to do so, often blending unconventional sounds that defy genre expectations. He has released two full-length albums, a show running into its seventh year on DDR, and a number of oddball collaborations with his pals.
Odd Ned will take the stage at the Complex for Alternating Current. Utilising field recordings from the subterranean waterway and river network running under Dublin city centre, Ned’s performance will combine the hidden sonics heard in these tunnels with his own compositions to create a submersive listening experience.

~ AC 2025 Artist Detail ~

géis is an invocation, framing a mode of engagement where improvisation serves as an exploration of the potentialities and present components of a space; body, object, and atmosphere.

Originating from the Irish word for a spoken forewarning, spell, taboo, or blessing within mythology, géis or geasa have an essential function within narrative: commonly spoken by wise women or the othered or q***red body, they initiate action and illuminate purpose within the temporality of a story. Here, the power of intention holds and echoes in action and activation of raw and sensitive sound weaving.

Featuring Elaine Malone, Eleanor Myler, and Méabh McKenna, this captivating performance will be part of the Alternating Current Festival at Pepper Canister Church.

Gliogar are an artist collective based in Conamara. They perform and programme events
around Ireland, particularly rural in Gaeltacht areas.
For Alternating Current 2025, they will present a newly commissioned A/V work called
‘faoin tsráid’ which takes the audience on a journey to the hidden parts of Dublin beneath
our feet, in particular the medieval St. Mary’s Abbey just off Capel Street whose chapter
house still exists beneath an apartment block.
