I'm inviting all my listeners to join me for tonight's Phoenix Blues, at 10pm, on 92.5 Phoenix FM. I'll be starting with Blind Willie McTell, with his brilliant "Statesboro Blues". I'll also be playing music by John Lee Ho**er & Carlos Santana, Nina Simone, including her classic "Feeling Good" and her song "Blues For Mama", BB King and some slightly different stuff by Black Sabbath, to pay tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who died on July 22nd. I'll be featuring the pioneering metal classic "Paranoid" and the awesome "Iron Man". Today is also the 56th anniversary of Big Brother & the Holding Company's album, Cheap Thrills. I'll also be playing some songs from that, including their iconic version of "Piece of My Heart". Listen below to some of those songs. To all my listeners, my latest Phoenix Blues show, is airing as we speak, on 92.5 Phoenix FM. It's a tribute to Jeff Beck, who would've been 80 today. I'll be featuring his brilliant version of the Syreeta song "Cause We've Ended As Lovers", along with his covers of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "I Put a Spell On You", featuring Joss Stone. I'm also playing a few of his songs from his time as guitarist with the Yardbirds, including a great song called "Heart Full of Soul". Listen to some of the songs in the links below. I'm inviting all my listeners to join me tonight at 10pm, on 92.5 Phoenix FM, for a tribute to Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, to mark the 12th anniversary of his death. I'll be playing several blues songs by the Doors, including the brilliant "Roadhouse Blues", along with their cover of the blues standard "Rock Me Baby", "Moonlight Drive" and their version of the Willie Dixon song "You Need Meat (Don't Go No Further)", featuring Manzarek himself on vocals. I'll also be featuring some of the Doors's best-known songs, such as "Break On Through (To the Other Side)" and the classic "Light My Fire". Listen to some of those songs right here. To all my listeners, I didn't get around to making the post for this before the latest show started tonight.

If any of my listeners caught my latest Phoenix Blues show tonight, I hope you enjoyed it. If some didn't get a chance to hear it though, be sure to tune in on Saturday at 6pm, to catch the repeat. It was a tribute to Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney, who turned 45 today. I played the Black Keys numbers "Lonely Boy", "Gold on the Ceiling", "When the Lights Go Out" and their version of the blues standard "Crawling King Snake", first recorded by Delta bluesman Big Joe Williams in 1941. Tonight at 10, on 92.5 Phoenix FM, Phoenix Blues is a tribute to Ida Cox, the Uncrowned Queen of the Blues herself, who is thought to have been born today in 1896. I'll be playing her brilliant, trail-blazing song, "Wild Women Don't Have the Blues", now recognized as one of the earliest feminist anthems. I'll also be playing her songs "Graveyard Dream Blues", "Death Letter Blues" and "One Hour Mama". You can hear the show on www.phoenixfm.ie if you're outside Dublin 15. I'll be featuring the band's version of Blind Willie McTell's song "Statesboro Blues", along with their version of the Muddy Waters blues standard "Hoochie Coochie Man". Also coming up on tonight's tribute are Derek & the Dominos with their classic "Layla", featuring Allman on slide guitar, and songs by Allman's early band, Hour Glass, including their song "Now Is the Time".
