Some news just in.
The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland announces the appointment of Martina Durac as its new Executive Director.
Martina brings a rare combination of creative, legal, organisational and industry experience to the role. A director herself, with a strong body of work, she has first-hand knowledge of the realities facing Irish screen directors today.
Her background also includes legal expertise, festival curation and sustained engagement with the wider screen sector, giving her a deep understanding of both the artistic and structural challenges ahead.
Her appointment comes at a defining moment for directors in Ireland, as questions around pay, rights, authorship, collective bargaining and the future of sustainable creative work become increasingly urgent. SDGI has made significant progress in recent years in advancing directors’ rights, strengthening industry recognition and securing important protections for creators.
I am honoured to have the opportunity to advocate for directors and to secure their rights. As a director myself, this work matters deeply to me. Directors are central to the creative life of our screen industry, and their rights, pay and working conditions must be properly recognised and protected. I take over from the wonderful Birch Hamilton who has been steering SDGI for many years now. I plan to build on her legacy. Onwards.
