Four years ago, when we started a modest Cricket Podcast called the Slog Sweep, we sought support from those involved in the game. One of the first, from week 1, was a man of not great physical stature, but a giant when it came to his love and passion of the wonderful game. His quirky humour, combined with his ability to wax lyrically about seemingly the most mundane aspects of the game, not to mention of course his encyclopaedic knowledge of cricket, made David Holmes and the Slog Sweep a perfect match. He was not scared to call it as he saw it either, never shying away from the tough issues. But more than all of that, David was a great man, and one of the finest ambassadors the game of Cricket in Ireland could have. To us he was simply ‘Holmsey’...cheeky, funny, great craic and genuinely ‘one of the good guys’....All of us at the Slog Sweep are truly and absolutely heartbroken at his passing. We will miss you David...Rest in Peace.
