Farpoint Recordings and CMC Ireland are delighted to launch 'Haunted By Silence' by Danny McCarthy, a new solo album released by Farpoint Recordings.

*About this release*

Danny McCarthy had in mind for many years to try and create a work based around the sounds he listened to in St. Mary's Abbey, Glencairn, County Waterford, which is home to Ireland's only community of Cistercian nuns. He describes it as a wonderful place that he visits regularly - sitting there for hours on end, just listening...In the evening, when the heating system is switched off the wood in the Abbey contracts with the cooling air leading to a sequence of incredible sounds randomly occurring from various locations throughout. These sounds are completely indeterminate; no two are the same and can come from anywhere at any time.

‘Haunted By Silence’ takes inspiration from these phenomena - McCarthy uses field recordings and sounds created using found objects to weave a single forty seven minute hypnotic composition that on one level reflects his practice of deep listening, and his sublime compositional skills on another. Although this work has its basis in a sound installation in the vaults at Lavit Gallery, Cork which was curated by Brian Mac Domhnaill, it is a work in itself, inspired by it and reworked as a two channel piece.

Join us to celebrate the launch of 'Haunted By Silence' on 2nd December 2025. The project will be introduced by Bernard Clarke (RTÉ lyric fm), and followed by a short live set by Danny McCarthy accompanied by David Stalling & Anthony Kelly.

The CD (featuring essays by David Toop & Sr. Eleanor Campion) will be available at the special launch price of €10.

Admission is free but advance registration is required.
Please contact the Farpoint team at [email protected] by Friday 28th November to find out more and register your interest.

We'd love to see you there!

Digital Album with 30 page pdf booklet
The music on this album was written especially for the celebrated Irish uilleann piper Mark Redmond and the principal cellist of Ireland’s National Symphony Orchestra, Martin Johnson. These works were first performed at the New Music Dublin Festival in Ireland’s National Concert Hall on Apr 26th 2025. From the opening Irish slow air to the concluding Javanese gangsaran, this album represents a confluence of diverse musical traditions, from Ireland and Java, to India, to Western classical music and the avant-garde.

The players of the NCH Gamelan Orchestra perform on a beautiful and prestigious set of bronze gamelan instruments from Central Java which were gifted to the Irish people by His Royal Highness Sultan Hamengkubuwono X of Yogyakarta in 2014.

Mermaid Arts Centre, 8pm, 22nd October 2025 Tickets: https://www.mermaidartscentre.ie/whats-on/events/aquifer

Wicklow-based stone sculptor Helen O'Connell and pianist Izumi Kimura began a collaborative dialogue in 2024. Through intuitive exchanges, they created an ongoing conversation between sound and stone. This collaboration quickly evolved into a multidisciplinary live performance, which has since expanded to include artists Anthony Kelly (sound recording, amplified objects and electronics), Cora Venus Lunny (violin), Michael Durand (photography), and Luke McManus (documentary filmmaker).

Join us for a one-of-a-kind live concert featuring improvised music and stone carving. Each ticket includes a token for our upcoming album, scheduled for release in 2026 on the Farpoint Recordings label.
