After coming so close to toppling Leinster Intermediate champions Westmeath in their first TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship outing this season, Louth manager Kevin Larkin was understandably downbeat when he faced the media after the game.
After trailing by seven points midway through the second half, Louth, who were playing Junior Championship football last season, dragged themselves level with just a few minutes to go. “Overall we’re very disappointed, we put ourselves in that position though, I think it’s the first time since I’ve been here where we’ve conceded three goals in either league or championship, all of which I think when we look back , were preventable,” said Larkin.
“But it’s just very fine margins and I think, first of all Westmeath are a very good team but in saying that, we were in the game, the girls showed great character to come back but I just think we put ourselves there in the first place and at this level you just won’t get away with that.”
