I see this at a particular stage with a lot of businesses.
Things are ticking along, some leads coming in, some revenue being generated, and the decision gets made to push harder. More ad spend, more content, more activity. It feels like the logical next move.
For a while it looks like progress. The numbers go up. The team gets busier. Then the results don’t follow and suddenly the business is spending twice as much to get the same outcome it was getting before. What happened is they scaled the activity without fixing the system underneath it. More spend into ads that weren’t converting. More content with no strategy behind it. More of everything except the thing that actually needed fixing.
Scale the right thing and the results compound. Scale the wrong thing , and you just compound the problem.
