What’s On in West Cork – August 2025

The Inchigeela festival will run from 15th – 24th August and the Bandon Walled Town Festival will take place from 16th – 24th August so dates to put in the diary.

August 22nd commemorates the death of local patriot Michael Collins. The Michael Collins House Museum in Clonakilty is displaying the Michael Collins Diaries together with newly displayed diplomatic letters. The Four Alls Bar at Sams Cross will hold a wreath laying ceremony on Friday 22nd followed by live music in the bar.

On Sunday 10th August the annual charity walk along the Michael Collins Way to Carraig a Radhairc takes place in aid of Cancer Connect.

As we approach the autumn season, our minds concentrate on going back to school or college. Michelle O’Mahony, history consultant has contributed an article From The Slate To The Tablet – Schooling In Ireland.

What’s On in West Cork – 24 July 2025

Our history columnist has done an interesting article on The Banks of the Lovely Lee, the article is very interesting and informative even though we were not singing the anthem after The All Ireland Hurling Final.

In this edition we have a piece from Dunmanway resident David Caldwell on the famous Ballabuidhe Races and festivities. We also look forward to the Bandon Walled Town Festival.

Bandon is a town that has been plagued by roadworks so let’s hope the sun shines on them and they have a huge attendance.

Once again we are grateful to Ann Marie Butler of Wild Garlic @ Fado in Bantry for a fabulous fishy recipe.

Summer is here, so let's get out and about in West Cork!

The festival and show season is well and truly upon us now, offering plenty to get involved in throughout the region. Over the peak summer many of the bars have live music to enjoy and for sports lovers several of the pubs show live matches on the big screen so no need to miss anything.

Cork is the Foodie capital of Ireland so why not sample some of the region’s remarkable restaurants where authentic food is available to suit every palate and budget?

Several of the West Cork towns and villages hold a weekly farmers market. These offer a wide choice of local, seasonal produce with much of it from artisan producers. There are always plenty of goodies to sample in a vibrant and relaxed atmosphere.

Exams over, school’s out and the high summer season begins in earnest.

Festival season is in full throttle and Clonakilty is looking forward to its annual Street Carnival on 14th June which promises to be a fantastic day out for all the family.

Over June 20th and 21st (the longest day) the attractive village of Shannonvale holds its Summerfest at Phairs Pub. There is plenty of music and on Saturday there is a family fun day with a BBQ. Throughout the whole of West Cork there are plenty of festivals taking place with something to suit everybody.

Over the summer, in conjunction with OM History Consultants we are carrying a feature Summer Sunday Spins around West Cork.
Turn a road trip into a bit of fun with the kids playing I spy, take a picnic and you have a family day out at very little cost.

What’s on in West Cork Magazine – May 2025

2025 is galloping along and as we hurl towards our summer there is plenty to do and see. The fantastic Cork Choral festival takes place from 30th April – 4th May.

For food lovers the Cork On A Fork Food Fest launches its programme of events on 7th May although the event is later in the summer. Many of the bars in West Cork have live music and there are some wonderful restaurants in West Cork.

A family day out does not have to be expensive, a picnic in the woods or on the beach, some beautiful walks, try the scenic walk from Timoleague to Courtmacsherry.

A BIG shout out to the charity tractor run from the Fish The Fish Basket Longstrand on 5th May.

Please be vigilant when near the water and take care in the sun’s rays this time of year.
