Those commuting to and from Wexford town on a daily basis will have to endure more time stuck in traffic after the local council said works to install a filter lane at the New Ross Roundabout did not have a definitive timeline.

Responding to a query from Councillor Ger Carthy at the June meeting of Wexford County Council (WCC), director of roads Eamonn H**e said the roundabout was due to be resurfaced in the coming weeks and the filter lane would not be delivered until those works were complete.

“I don’t particularly care about the tarmacking contract there, I want to know when the filter lane is going in,” responded Cllr Carthy who in his work as a paramedic is acutely aware of the need to navigate this section of road to access Wexford General Hospital.

“I’ve asked about this for the past four months, I was assured it was going to happen. I want the left filter lane to New Ross installed to alleviate the massive tailbacks we’re seeing there every day.”

The Pettitt’s Kitchen products were recalled due to the possible presence of “listeria monocytogenes”, something which the FSAI says can cause “mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea”.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued an urgent recall notice for specific batches of ready meals which found their way onto shelves at Pettitt’s supermarkets across Wexford.

Raising the issue at the June meeting of Wexford County Council (WCC), Councillor Micheal Sheehan asked why medical professionals who are “not exactly on the breadline” are being paid for basic administrative work.

“Seriously ill” people are being charged up to €60 by their GP to have grant aid documents stamped and signed. The documents and forms relate to housing adaptations, carer’s and disability allowance, and the blue badge assigned to motorists who wish to park in disabled bays.

It was a rainy overcast day when Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion Michael Moynihan stepped onto the grounds of St Aidan’s primary school, Enniscorthy to meet with staff over appeal issues for SNA support.

Greeting him first was a group of students with a variety of additional needs who are missing out on much-needed assistance, not because of a lack of passion and dedication from staff, but from a National Council for Special Education (NCSE) system that seems impossible to win.

Despite having 870 pupils and seven special classes, St Aidan’s says it does not have enough SNA resources to meet growing demand

Despite having lost his seat as an MEP for Ireland South in 2024, Mick Wallace remains a well-travelled man. This week, the Wexford man returned to Iran where he was honoured with a “Right Side of History Award” by the state.

The newly-established award is presented by the Iranian authorities to international activists, artists, academics and political activists who support causes endorsed by Iran and “oppose Western-backed policies”.

The awards ceremony was held on Keshvardoorst Street in Tehran, in close proximity to the site where the former supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, died in a joint US-Israeli airstrike on February 28.
