Solas Relaxation is a bilingual meditation and relaxation company founded by the journalist and writer, Katie McGreal. She provides relaxation classes for all ages in English and Irish. All classes are tailored to meet the needs of the students. These classes follow seven steps; game playing, peer and self massage, movement, positive words and thinking, stretches and focusing on the breath. There is then a relaxation section where a visualisation is read out while the students sit or lie down to listen to it and fully relax. During adult classes, there are three types of meditation; a visualisation, a walking meditation and a sitting meditation.

If my Tuesday reel about how I didn't kill my housemate resonated with you, you might need to learn some mindful activities!

I have posted about Kevin's beautiful testimonial before but it made my week at the time so I had to post about it again!

Kevin didn't know much about mindfulness or meditation before we got talking and now he finds it much easier to switch off and to relax. He learnt through the mindful activities that he doesn't need to sit quietly in order to help his mind feel quieter and for him to be able to relax. I  absolutely love that the Membership has helped him so much!

The membership allows you to meditate and practice mindfulness in your own way and at your own pace. The bi-weekly Mindful Activities help you to remember to become aware of what is happening around you when you are living life.

For example, one of the activities could be simply to get outside which I did this morning when I was livid about something my housemate did. I could have looked at the trees and felt really angry and thought about all of the ways I could get her back, but after a little while of doing that, I was able to bring myself back to seeing all of the leaves on the ground and I was able to enjoy how the different colours all around me looked. It is so easy to get caught up in our mind but we need reminders to come out of our head and be here now.

Mindfulness can be fun! Let me show you how!

Animal breathing was something I created in order to make deep breathing more fun for children.

We hear all the time that if we are feeling stressed we should take some deep breaths and it will help us feel better but why do we have to take slow breaths that feel really serious?

We don't, we can take deep breaths in any way that makes us feel good!

I was told by a mum of a little girl who had come to my classes that her daughter does her bunny breathing before school everyday and it makes her feel so much better. Elephant breathing has had teachers come into the room in school to see what kind of mindfulness we are doing and I have had thirty bumble bees flying around the room as we do bumble bee breathing.

I can't believe I've made it to season 2 to be honest but I have lots of incredible interviews done and ready to share with you and I have more planned and I cannot wait for you to hear them.

The first podcast back is a solo episode with me talking about life now here in A Coruna and what I'm up to, how it has been and I also talk about embodiment, what it is and what it means and I talk about embodiment coaching as well. Stress, anxiety, worry, fear; they are all part of our everyday life now.

The world is on fire and we feel so out of control and helpless so often but yet we're still here.

While I was being really sad over the weekend, I received this beautiful testimonial from Kevin, who has been in the membership since it began and I was so delighted to read how much my meditations and explanations and supports have helped him.

Life is full of paradoxes, one minute we are sad and upset and the next minute we are happy or the other way around.

I think the key is to be able to feel sad and let yourself feel happy as then the emotions can move faster through you and you can feel better but you also get to experience all of the emotions which is really what life is about; the good and the not so good!

When I went to Roselyn's house to teach a family session, she had three children there with one a lot younger then the others, which can make the classes a little more challenging but I loved being able to give the little one some simple tasks to do, and keeping him involved in the class.

We did stretches with different cards and all three children could pick cards and the animal breathing was a huge hit with all three. We used by big spongy dice so it could be thrown all over the place and even the little one was able to join in for the colouring in at the end and as happens often with these classes, I didn't want to end it as I didn't want to break the calm spell that had come over the house.

Mindfulness does not need to be done quietly. There can be running kids, doorbells ringing, dogs barking (as happens often during family sessions, with the parents having to run in and out as well sometimes) and we can still practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is awareness of what you are doing when you are doing it and if you are mindful of the noise, you are hearing it but are choosing to have fun, choosing to offer a little one that is wanting attention something small to play with, that is all part of mindfulness.

My Mindfulness Diary will offer you so many different ways to practice mindfulness with your children. Some of it will be them asking questions like 'what was something fun you did today?' at dinner or it will sometimes be for them to go outside and look at the stars. It will vary every day so that their interest is kept and so they want to keep coming back to the diary to see what is the next possible mindful activity.
