Solas Relaxation is a bilingual meditation and relaxation company founded by the journalist and writer, Katie McGreal. She provides relaxation classes for all ages in English and Irish. All classes are tailored to meet the needs of the students. These classes follow seven steps; game playing, peer and self massage, movement, positive words and thinking, stretches and focusing on the breath. There is then a relaxation section where a visualisation is read out while the students sit or lie down to listen to it and fully relax. During adult classes, there are three types of meditation; a visualisation, a walking meditation and a sitting meditation.

There are so soooo many benefits of meditation and I wanted to remind you of them, in case you were thinking of starting your meditation journey but then you don't do it!

Meditation has helped me get to let go of anxieties and worries, know myself better, it has helped me know when I feel comfortable around someone, it has helped me to feel happier and live a life that I love and that I have intentionally chosen, instead of just going along with what others has said or thought or I was told to do.

I cannot recommend starting a regular meditation practice enough and it doesn't have to require lots of extra time. With just 10 minutes a day, you can experience some of the benefits here, as well as others I haven't even thought of.

Mindfulness has changed my life because it gives me time to sit with myself and notice how I am feeling, where I am feeling it and it allows me time to process it, and it doesn't have to be lots of time, it can just be a moment or two, but many of us don't even allow ourselves that.

So many of us are running from one thing to the next without taking any time in between, 10 minutes of mindfulness, of breathing, of noticing how you are feeling a day can make such a huge difference to you.

When we feel anxious or stressed, 10 minutes of meditation can change our day. Stress causes our thoughts to move really quickly around our head which makes us feel like we don't have enough time to do everything we need to do. When you sit still for just 10 minutes, those thoughts slow down and you can feel like you have more time by the end of it, even if you have spent 10 minutes doing 'nothing'.

You will learn more about what you like, who you are, what you want to do and what you don't want to do.

It can be absolutely life changing, if you let it.

Schools are either already back or going back soon, so now is the time we start getting back into routines and maybe you're also thinking of creating some new and good habits.

If you, like me, have anxiety or your brain likes to worry about things you have no control over, then meditation would be a great habit for you to consider.

Are you ever worried and have the same thoughts playing in your head over and over?

Interrupting mindfulness for a minute to recap some of my summer in a Coruña (only some because I have more photos and places I've been but Instagram only wants you to see 20)

The night before I moved I went down to my surrogate mother and said 'what the hell am I doing? Why am I leaving everything I know for everything I don't know?!'

She told me that I'd had the idea to move to Galacia so I should at least try it out and then worst case scenario I've spent the summer in Spain and I move back.

I won't be going back. This was definately a good idea.

In the first two weeks, I cried from loneliness and overwhelm and fear and anxiety and probably other uncomfortable emotions. I stood in a plaza hugging a tree crying one day, it was baddd! But we got through it and then I started to meet people, I went to some classes (in the last weeks before the finished for the summer), I had a great coaching session with .grainger and I saw work opportunities where I hadn't before and now I feel so much more settled and comfortable. I'm not really confident that I'll understand the person I'm talking to all the time but I'm more confident then I was and it's a process, it'll take time

But this was definitely a good idea. Would highly recommend moving country

Reducing anxiety and stress are just two of the millions of benefits of having a regular meditation practice, but as a stressed bunny and someone with anxiety they are two of my favourite benefits; along with improved sleep! Meditation has also improved my relationships and has helped me have a calmer outlook on life as well.

Mindfulness changed my life. I am so much happier and I am more content, I have a better idea of what I like and don't like and I know what I want my life to feel like; calm. I just want to be calm all the time! But in the past, I would have looked to society's norms and other people to tell me how my life should look but with my practice, I now know that I don't really care about societal norms and I just want to be happy and calm.

The last day of August and we have all heard that feeling calm is good for us, we know that there are supposed to be benefits but with all that life throws at us, how is calm an option??

Mos of us are anxious, stressed and worried and of course we are; we have work and bills and emails and family obligations and there is a constant, neverending to do list, not to mention the world is on fire so how are we supposed to feel calm??

But I promise that you can feel calm, even when everything is chaotic outside.

And I'm not talking about creating an external calm, COVID taught us that we have control over very little, which means that we can't make things external to us feel calm, but we can feel calm internally.

And creating this feeling of calm DOES NOT require lots of extra time. It does not require you to sit still for hours on end and it doesn't mean that you can never feel your emotions and you have to pretend to be calm when you are really feeling sad, anxious, stressed or angry!

Feeling our feelings are a great way to get to that feeling of calm. When we refuse to feel our feelings, those feelings build up within us until we finally just explode onto someone, usually not the someone that deserves it. But if you allow yourself to feel the feeling inside you, without needing to take it out on anyone else then you will get that feeling of calm afterwards, expressing our emotions and feelings as they come up mean that they don't stay in our body, they move through us and are gone, they are gone and leave space for us to feel calm.

The last episode of this season of The Inner Nudge Podcast is now available for you to hear on Spotify, Amazon and Apple podcasts.

This is a solo episode updating you on life here in A Coruna, how I have or haven't adjusted and how the emigration process was for me (spoiler; it was really hard, hugging trees as I cried was involved)

And this is the final episode of the season as I go off on holidays next week and I don't have any other interviews recorded!

We will be back before the end of the year but I have no exact plans as to when that'll be, just like I had no plans to record and publish 19 episodes but here we are!

Taking the time to listen to ourselves, our bodies, our thoughts, our feelings, what we want and what we don't want is the ultimate act of self love.
