And Books Upstairs is another wonderful bookshop.

We are so thrilled to be among the 21 recipients of the Books At One Community Prize Fund! 🥳 This incredible initiative is such a meaningful way to support independent bookselling in Ireland - and coming off the back of Amazon’s entry into Ireland, it couldn’t be more welcome. Thank you so much to for this amazing opportunity, which really recognises the creative contributions indie bookshops make in their communities. We are really excited to open up new spaces in the shop for a permanent exhibit of local, historical and bookselling heritage, open to and free for all to see. We’ll post updates as we gather speed 💫

A good bookshop is a great thing for every community. Kennys Bookshop is world class and community - facing!
Congrats to ye.

We are delighted to have been awarded funds from the Books at One Community Prize Fund to run a community focused project at Kennys Bookshop. The fund is an initiative set up by BOOKS at ONE to facilitate independent bookshops to run an event that benefits their local community. At Kennys, we will be running an event for local schoolchildren during the upcoming school year in our bookshop, whereby we will invite Irish children's authors to give readings and a talk to approximately 400 primary school children from around Galway. We will bring the children to the shop by bus, and each one will receive a free book on the day. Thank you to Books at One for granting us these funds at Kennys and for the opportunity to run this event for local school children.
Galway schools/primary school teachers can already apply - any expressions of interest can be sent to Gráinne on grá[email protected]!

What a fantastic speech by Mairead McGuinness as part of the Aleen Cust Memorial Symposium at ATU Mountbellew yesterday focusing on the theme of trailblazers!

It is always great to catch up with Mairead and she is a trailblazer in so many ways 👏🏻

Aleen Cust was Ireland’s and first female vet. Well done to the committee for organising and Marie Mannion and the Heritage Office of Galway County Council for their support.
