Strange Brew presents
THE WHITE HORSE GUITAR CLUB
Sunday 30 November/ Town Hall Theatre

The White Horse Guitar Club will play Town Hall Theatre on Sun, 30 November as part of a 16-date Nationwide Tour of Ireland to promote their latest and critically acclaimed album Sos Beag.

The White Horse Guitar Club have become a powerful live draw, with a reputation for deeply moving and communal performances. Their eleven voices and guitars are played in harmony and unison, delivering warmth, grit, and raw honesty. Audiences are drawn not just to the music, but to the energy, humour, and authenticity on stage. Over the years, they’ve sold out major venues including Cork Opera House and St Canice’s Cathedral, and have drawn huge festival crowds at Electric Picnic and All Together Now. Don’t miss this unforgettable live show in Galway on Sun 30 November!

“There is no better way to spend a night out.” - The Irish Examiner

“Everybody was stopped in their tracks by the sound they created.” - Ray D’Arcy, RTÉ

“They have tapped into something very special. Going from strength to strength, they could become one of the most intriguing success stories of the year ahead… White Horse Guitar Club will be all over the airwaves very soon.” - Hot Press

“Beautiful stuff and a strong sense of camaraderie.” - Tom Dunne, Newstalk

Myself and Paul from Cloth bond over Arthur Russell this week. NewDad’s new album is out. So is Former Champ’s. Soda Blonde have a live album on the way. HousePlants have a new tour. So much happening, lads. And my Welsh lessons continue as I continue to do my best to correctly pronounce track names from Gruff Rhys’ new album.

This week, Mogwai pick not one but TWO of their favourite songs. I mean, I don’t normally allow that sort of nonsense, but I’ll make an exception because Mogwai are class.

Strange Brew presents
LISA O’NEILL
Sunday 02 November
Town Hall Theatre
On sale Friday at 10am from tht.ie

Following recent sold-out residencies in the Gate Theatre and Pavilion Theatre, and main stage performance at All Together Now, Lisa O’Neill announces a return to Vicar Street in Dublin on December 21st. In addition, throughout November she will perform intimate theatres and residencies around Ireland following UK dates and US dates performing as special guest of the Pogues.

Earlier in the year Lisa released a single which features vocals from Libertines’ Peter Doherty - ‘Homeless In The Thousands (Dublin in the Digital Age)’ - a song Lisa felt compelled to write in response to the growing issue of homelessness in Dublin. This is not the first time O’Neill has written about social injustices on the cusp of a change. Songs like Rock the Machine about unemployment in the Dublin dock lands, When Cash Was King about the move to a cashless society and Violet Gibson about the Irish woman who attempted to assassinate Mussolini in 1926.

“Giving voice to the disenfranchised is something she does so well, with a particular affinity for women – “Woman is powerful when not restricted”- she says…. And she is emblematic of this, with a free singularity that can fold in difficult subjects, such as homelessness…”. The Irish Times – live Gate Theatre review

“The Cavan songwriter has grown in stature in recent years as a valued chronicler of the disenfranchised. Songs of social, political and cultural issues preoccupy her as she proves as adept a storyteller as the playwrights long associated with this room.” The Sunday Business Post - live Gate Theatre review

So, Kishi Bashi played the Róisín last week and it was incredible. Only took me 12 years or so to get him here. Totally worth it - be prepared for a startling revelation about where Thin Lizzy are from! Go see Kishi Bashi whenever you can. Excited for Mogwai? YES. Also, is Let Me Introduce My Friends, the 2006 debut album from I’m From Barcelona, the best way to stop your kids listening to s**t music in the car? Yes it is. I’ve dug up my favourite Sonny & The Sunsets song from 2009 because it popped into my head and now it’s going to be in yours all week. Shark School back in Róisín Dubh next Saturday - don’t miss it.

Well, a lot going on this week. Didn’t intentionally mean to have two songs referencing Jamie Oliver this week, but sometimes you have to play the hand you’re dealt. Don’t miss Getdown Services in November!
Looking back now, I feel I should have dropped some Teenage Fanclub in there, would have worked well with Former Champ & Hotline TNT, right? Live and learn I guess. I’m off to listen to Bandwagonesque.
