Paddy Hanna releases double Burt Bacharch covers (+ live shows)!

Honouring one of Hanna’s most beloved personal heroes, the renditions tease a large-scale Bacharach homage project due for release in late 2026, which follows lastyear’s acclaimed OYLEGATE album (4 stars, The Irish Times).

In 2019, Hanna supported Bacharach for two nights in Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens and at the Galway International Arts Festival, where the six-time GRAMMY award winner was so impressed with Hanna’s opening performance, that he invited him onstage for an ecstatic encore in Galway, performing ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head (link in bio).

During a difficult period of his life, Bacharach’s act of kindness transformed Paddy’s outlook, where today the memory continues to fuel his determination, love and his mission to share irresistible songs with the world.

Heartfelt and uplifting, the joyous tribute release brings Bacharach’s timeless music to life with Paddy’s wit, charm and infectious energy, introducing a fresh new era celebrating positivity, gratitude and the transformative power of kindness.

Sunday 17 May • Róisín Dubh

Nora Brown is the “brightest young star in old-time music” (Songlines), playing traditional music focused on southern Appalachian banjo and guitar, with her singing revealing her “thirst for storytelling.”( NPR) . She digs deep: “a reverent nod to deeply-rooted ole-time traditions, and an exhibit of sonic heirlooms carefully amended to meet a modern moment with vintage elegance.” American Songwriter. The New Yorker called her most recent solo record Long Time To Be Gone “a disarming collection of traditional laments and exquisite banjo instrumentals.”

Nora will perform in a duo with award-winning fiddler Stephanie Coleman. First brought together by Brooklyn’s tight-knit old-time music community, Nora Brown and Stephanie Coleman share a rich musical partnership that belies their 20 year age difference. Stephanie is a master old-time fiddler, having recorded with and toured internationally over the last two decades with celebrated artists including trailblazing all-women string band Uncle Earl.

“Some of the most interesting and haunting traditional music we’ve heard… impossibly talented… One thing that I really loved about both your albums is that both your banjo technique and your vocals are amazing. You seem to be mining these old songs with emotions far beyond your years.”

– Jason Verlinde, Fretboard Journal

Tonight, CERYS HAFANA s a Welsh composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist who mangles, mutates, and transforms traditional music. Hafana’s primary instrument is the Welsh triple harp with which they explore all its creative possibilities and unique qualities, playing with found sounds, archival materials and electronic processing. Their spellbinding music is rich with atmosphere and heart and stubbornly resistant to genre boxes and easy classification.

The Swedish band Quilty is a highly renowned interpreter of traditional Irish music and considered being the foremost band of the Irish folk music scene in Scandinavia. The band was formed in 1993 and has, over the last three decades, performed a huge number of concerts in Sweden, Germany and Norway and created a wide range of collaboration projects with choirs and symphony orchestras. They have joined together with the legendary Irish musician Andy Irvine, formerly of Planxty, Patrick Street, and more, to form an Irish – Swedish collaboration, playing top Irish music and song with a hint of Swedish traditional music. A winning combination.

Andy Irvine is one of the great Irish singers, his voice one of a handful of truly great ones that gets to the very soul of Ireland. He has been hailed as “a tradition in himself.” Musician, singer and songwriter, Andy has maintained his highly individual performing skills throughout his over 55-year career. From Sweeney’s Men in the mid 60s, to the enormous success of Planxty in the 70s, his duo with Paul Brady in the late 70s and then from Patrick Street to Mozaik, LAPD and Usher’s Island, Andy has been a world music pioneer and an icon for traditional music and musicians.

As a soloist, Andy fills the role of the archetypal troubadour with a show and a travelling lifestyle that reflects his lifelong influence, Woody Guthrie. To quote The Irish Times, “Often copied, never equalled”, his repertoire consists of Irish traditional songs, dexterous Balkan dances and a compelling canon of his own self-penned songs.

Strange Brew presents
GRUFF RHYS
& GWENIFER RAYMOND
SATURDAY 24 JANUARY · 8PM · LAST FEW TICKETS!

Gruff Rhys has been releasing records since 1988 with his first band Ffa Coffi Pawb before becoming well known as the frontman of Super Furry Animals – a band that has been able to achieve that rarest of mixes - artistic adventure with popular devotion – blending fuzz-filed rock, pure harmonies and cutting edge electronics. Renowned for their blissful melodies, his solo albums have explored untapped areas musically and lyrically. 2021’s Top Ten charting Seeking New Gods climbed fresh lyrical and musical terrain, a conceptual record about his own mountain and became his most critically and commercially successful solo album yet. 2024 saw the release of its follow up, the widescreen, baroque pop ‘Sadness Sets Me Free’. Recorded on the outskirts of Paris with his band, it garnered further rave reviews and was widely acclaimed to be amongst his finest work. 2025 SAW the release of his latest Welsh language album Dim Probs.
