So, Kishi Bashi played the Róisín last week and it was incredible. Only took me 12 years or so to get him here. Totally worth it - be prepared for a startling revelation about where Thin Lizzy are from! Go see Kishi Bashi whenever you can. Excited for Mogwai? YES. Also, is Let Me Introduce My Friends, the 2006 debut album from I’m From Barcelona, the best way to stop your kids listening to s**t music in the car? Yes it is. I’ve dug up my favourite Sonny & The Sunsets song from 2009 because it popped into my head and now it’s going to be in yours all week. Shark School back in Róisín Dubh next Saturday - don’t miss it.

Well, a lot going on this week. Didn’t intentionally mean to have two songs referencing Jamie Oliver this week, but sometimes you have to play the hand you’re dealt. Don’t miss Getdown Services in November!
Looking back now, I feel I should have dropped some Teenage Fanclub in there, would have worked well with Former Champ & Hotline TNT, right? Live and learn I guess. I’m off to listen to Bandwagonesque.

Emily Sprague from Florist has a chat with me, not just about the weather, but also about their superb 5th album, Jellywish, playing live and her favourite song by Jackson C. Frank. Loads of new music too. BC Camplight’s new album is out (go buy tickets for the November tour), WHY? cover Mac Miller, Sprints have announced an album and tour, and Hot 8 Brass Band are back in August, so let’s definitely give Sexual Healing a spin…

Strange Brew presents
THE REDNECK MANIFESTO
Thursday 28 August - tickets from roisindubh.net

T.R.M (The Redneck Manifesto) celebrate the launch of their new album “Grushy” with an Irish tour and release gig on 06.09.2025 at the Button Factory, Dublin.

Legendary Irish Instrumental band, T.R.M (The Redneck Manifesto), return to the stage and your ears, with their first fullIrishtourinsixyearsinsupportofanewalbum“Grushy” being released on Dublin label, Ten Spot Records, in September 2025.

T.R.M, now operating as a three-piece consisting of founding members Niall Byrne, Richie Egan and Matthew Bolger, have been hard at work over the last two years putting the finishing touches on a sonically expansive new album which is being released on audiophile 10” record. The 6th TRM album sees them build on their 25-year legacy of highly revered instrumental music, epitomised by intricate guitar work, synthesis and a strong DIY ethos.

T.R.M will be joined on the Irish tour by Dek Hynes and Thor Rasmussen on synth and percussion, and Paul Kenny on drums. This new line up played for the first time at this year’s Beyond the Pale Festival to great acclaim, and two sold out shows in Whelan’s earlier in 2025.

I finally got to see Dose live and they were awesome. We talk in the cold, hard light of day about their new ep, older crowds and upcoming gigs. Lot of Rock Action records action this week too - did you hear that Cloth are opening for Mogwai? Go get your tickets for Galway on the 24 July because it will be awesome. Don’t miss M(h)aol, Junk Drawer & Cola at the Róisín Dubh tonight (and other places later in the week - google it). Also, while you’re buying tickets, get your Search Results ones for September. And it’s nearly time for Kean Kavanagh’s album. Get on that.

Lads, back chatting with Kristin Hersh from Throwing Muses this week - could easily have spent the whole hour just talking to her. Tried to talk about the new album and only got a little side tracked. Ducks!!! Looking forward to reading that book. She’s great. Throwing Muses’ live show is stunning also - go see them. And loads of other music including the soundtrack to your summer from Daithí & Sinead White, and new music from loads of people. Lot of Scots this week too. No harm

Strange Brew presents
BOECKNER
Sunday 25 May / Róisín Dubh

Daniel Boeckner understands the grit and gravel that accumulates in the heart and that it takes an unwavering courage to crack through that clutter and burrow to the other side. And in Boeckner’s hands, that quest comes via postapocalyptic synth and guitar heroism, a rallying cry for those always coming home through the scorched clouds. Throughout his work with Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs, Divine Fits, Operators, Atlas Strategic, and more, the iconic Canadian indie rocker recognizes that few feelings are more gratifying—more memorable, more generative, more abundant—than hope. But it takes getting the hell out of your own way. A culmination of that deep library of musical reference, Boeckner has released his first album under his own name: Boeckner!
