A very happy hiker here on the Beara Peninsula. Just me and four seasons-worth of weather on the Rabach Way, a really off-grid trek to an abandoned village (story/video to follow). Anybody know the legend behind it? Thanks to for the tip! ๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿฅพ

Finally the moment you've all been waiting for..... The story of the Rabach's way!
Twenty nine people lived in Cummeengeera in 1841 and only seven in 1871. It was in one of these houses that Cornilius O Sullivan Rabach, who was hanged for murder in Tralee jail, lived in the early 1800's.
The Rabachs cave, where he once hid from the authorities, overlooks the river a short distance behind the house ruins.
The story goes that around 1800 a sailor came to the Rabachs house to seek shelter for the night. The sailor was killed because the Rabachs family thought that he was carrying a worthwhile amount of money. It is reputed that Cornelius carried out the murder.
Unknown to Cornelius, one of the neighbouring women saw what had taken place and many years later when she taunted him about the incident he murdered her.
The Rabach was hard to catch, hiding out in his cave, but he was finally captured, tried and found guilty of murder and hanged in Tralee jail in March 1831.
