So for the forthcoming show next Saturday I’m doing a 90’ & 00’s set. And as a charitable soul and for the craic, I’m making it a listeners choice show.
The attached DNA Show playlist has nearly nine hours of songs, so plenty to choose from but I’m open to other plausible suggestions. Fourteen songs. Please bear in mind longer songs might not work time wise, but that’s not set in stone either. First up, best dressed etc. Thanks in advance.

I’m not confused, I know it’s music.
But the construct of it and how it’s achieved is way beyond my comprehension.
But at the same time fascinating.
As one of the comments says, “when they go on a world tour, they’ll have to clarify which one”.

I finally got to see Slyrydes last night in the Roisín Dubh and as lead singer Mark Raftery alluded to, it had indeed been a long five years.
Despite some guitar tech issues at the start, pretty soon the gig kicked up to the levels of sonic joy I expected and they gave in piles.
The confidence grew and they took a willing crowd along with them for the ride.
Their music is unique, it’s a social imprint on the state of our world and it deserves a bigger audience and the brooding lead singer stalks the stage, spitting out the lyrics with purpose and vigour.
Irish music and indeed society, needs more Slyrydes and I’m delighted that they’re back amongst us, a willing audience of crusty aul fellahs, and a younger cohort gorging on their message. They finished with the song that started my Slyrydes fixation, Mental Health. A personal journey for Mark and the band, and a stark message to us all.
Onwards and upwards lads.

When the postmen don’t call on Valentines Day. So the song goes.
Anyway for the first time ever, the show falls on I love you slightly more on this advertising, marketing and confectionery floral day than all the others, and this time, I mean it.
So if you would like to, you can choose a song from the list and I will be happy to read out greetings to your beloved.
Of course there are also tracks for opposites and contrarians to the love in. Do your worst.

I’ve been a fan of this great Galway band from the start and they were making great well crafted and thought provoking tunes and creating a big noise in the music world before covid got in the bloody way.
Thankfully, They’re back with a bang with a recent album release and I finally get the chance to see them live. You should too. Can’t wait.

Slyrydes finally return to the stage of the roisin dubh to release their 2025 debut album, "What Happens if you Get Happy?"

Galway post-punk outfit Slyrydes first came to prominence with their incendiary 2018 debut single Mental Health, quickly building a reputation for confrontational lyricism and ferocious live shows. A string of vital follow-up singles and national airplay cemented their place in the new wave of Irish guitar music, leading to tours and a growing cult following. After a period of hiatus, the band returned to the stage with two sold-out comeback shows in November 2025 — a raw, cathartic re-emergence that marked the next chapter of the band’s story. Now joined live by longtime friend and producer Dan Doherty from Darklands, Slyrydes have entered a new creative phase. With new material currently in the works with more live dates rolling out, the band’s trademark intensity feels sharper and louder than ever.

€13 on the door.
