Homeless Limerick 💚 It was a genuine privilege to visit this remarkable Accommodation in Meelick and witness the extraordinary progress made in just two years. I had the opportunity to speak with some of the residents who now call this fine building home.

I hold every hope that the people behind these walls will receive the support and care they so richly deserve — the practical assistance and compassion that only our Local Council and Government can provide. Projects like this are not merely welcome; they are urgently needed for those experiencing homelessness.

Although the building is currently at full capacity, imagine what can still be achieved with the right support. What began as short-term accommodation is now evolving into long-term housing. That transition brings real challenges, yet it also offers something priceless: lasting security and stability for every family currently living here.

With another similar building already in the works, we will soon have yet another powerful addition to the support available for those in need — especially through the difficult winter months.

This is a drug- and alcohol-free building.

And the residents of the surrounding area remain our number-one priority.☘️

In 2015, 16-year-old Jamie Harrington was walking through Dublin when he noticed a man sitting on the edge of the Ha'penny Bridge, preparing to end his life.

Instead of walking past, Jamie stopped and asked 3 simple words:

"Are you okay?"

The teenager stayed with the man for around 45 minutes, talking to him, listening, and convincing him to step away from the edge. Although the man begged him not to, Jamie called an ambulance to make sure he received the help he needed.

Before they parted ways, they exchanged phone numbers.

A few months later, Jamie received an unexpected phone call. The man shared that his wife was expecting a baby boy and told Jamie they had decided to name their son Jamie in honour of the teenager whose kindness had given him a second chance at life.

It was a powerful reminder that sometimes the smallest act of compassion can change a life forever. A simple question, asked at the right moment, can become the reason someone chooses to keep living.

I have a Friend here on my Facebook who reached out to me on What's the Story recently for some advice on what to do with a Homeless man with addiction issues in Limerick !!!!

So the moral of this story it is..
A lad who I have known for many years took in a homeless man and he did this off his own back for the past few months to and from the streets where he is currently sleeping. You wouldn't believe the first night he stayed with my mate he slept for 17 hours straight. He gets hot showers and meals, but like us all we need our own space at days aswell, so he has to return to the streets

From what I am hearing on the phone is this person is a good guy who lost his way in life to He**in like many a soul has in Limerick, but thankfully he has people and strangers who are helping out

This man perked up when he saw our comments about him the other day in PM, so I wanna ask people on What's the Story: could you please leave a hopeful comment for him to read as he is being guided in the right direction tommrow and that is to his GP and hopefully starting his process to Rehab.

My mate will be bringing him to his doctor, and hopefully by the end of the week with help from the people around him, it will be a start for a new beginning in life as the process begins 🙏

This is one of many ideas I have for the people in my own area of Limerick. A little documentary-style video on Hyde Road and Weston to showcase the good people do when it comes to Animals and Horses

We will show you where they sleep, what they eat, and what mental health benefits Animals bring to the Community. We will also feature a few short clips of residents speaking with us if they are willing to speak i am sure they will.

I want people who are not from the area to see what we all see daily living here and it is not all doom and gloom

We are fully aware of animal cruelty across Ireland, and we will never stand with it, but have you seen the good people do ?

We will in no way be biased here but i really want ye to see what you may have not seen before 🐎

Thinking of a good friend of mine on her Birthday today Amanda O Donoghue🪻

Amanda sadly passed away on Sunday 2nd January 2022 it was a big shock to the commmunity in Prospect. I grew up with Amanda from Childhood and we been friends for all of them years. She will be forever missed and we are thinking of all her loved 1s today🪻

Rest In Peace my friend 💜
