Seán Rocks 1961 - 2025
It is with profound shock and sadness that we share news of the untimely passing of our friend and colleague Seán Rocks.
Seán, well known to you all as a presenter on RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ lyric fm died following a brief illness at the age of 63.
Well-known to listeners all over Ireland and the world, Seán began his radio career on RTÉ lyric fm in 2000 before taking the helm of Arena on its inception in 2009. He also had many acting credits to his name and was an award-winning documentary maker.
RTÉ Director General Kevin Bakhurst expressed his sympathies to Mr Rocks' family and said that not only is radio the poorer for his passing, "but so too has Ireland lost one of its most passionate advocates for the arts, and one of its most informed and versatile voices."
RTÉ's Director of Audio Patricia Monahan said Mr Rocks' passion for radio and the arts was infectious, and he "was interested in everyone's point of view and had a great ability to command an audience's attention. He was never more at home than when he was on stage."
Sinéad Wylde, Head of lyric fm spoke of “our deep sadness hearing about the death of our dear friend and colleague Seán Rocks, an incredible loss to his family, friends, colleagues, and the arts community throughout Ireland. He was passionate about music, and this was infectious. His unique voice, intense curiosity, intelligence, integrity, and sense of fun were compelling to listen to. He was taken too soon and will be greatly missed.”
Our thoughts are with his beloved Catherine, his children Christian and Morgan, and his extended family and friends. As he takes his final bow, May he rest in peace.
