As I listened to a new pirate station on air not far from me now, this came to mind. Following a surge in pirate radio stations in the late 70s, the state-run national broadcaster decided, if you can’t beat them, join then & launched a national radio station aimed at the youth to compete with the pirates. But it failed & the surge in pirate broadcasting continued into the 80s as the pirates became more powerful and more popular. One of the major political parties while in opposition and fighting a general election even set up their own pirate radio station to attract voters. Today there is a mix of State broadcasting, commercial and community radio across the country. NAME THE COUNTRY?
