Those using public transport in Gorey town centre will soon be protected from the elements while they wait for their buses to arrive. Currently, the two stops in the heart of the town do not have shelters and passengers must seek refuge under shop awnings during adverse weather.

The Christmas period appeared to have taken its toll on some of Wexford’s county councillors and officials as they convened for their first meeting of 2026.

Having vowed to explore ways to prevent a 300-acre solar farm being developed in Gusserane during their December meeting, they seemed to have temporarily forgotten how they intended to do that just a few weeks later.

Those using public transport in Gorey town centre will soon be protected from the elements while they wait for their buses to arrive. Currently, the two stops in the heart of the town do not have shelters and passengers must seek refuge under shop awnings during adverse weather.

However, according to district engineer Joanne Kehoe, the National Transport Authority (NTA) has approved the construction of two brand new stops, with shelters, for Gorey.

At the December meeting of the Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District (GKMD) Councillor Craig Doyle said those waiting for buses were often “left standing in the rain” due to the lack of shelter on Gorey’s Main Street.

Situated at the bottom of Esmonde Street in Gorey, the property is estimated to have been built during the latter years of The Celtic Tiger but, according to local councillors, has never been used for commercial purposes.

Wexford County Council (WCC) is to look into the status of a town centre building which has been boarded up for the past 20 years without ever being used. Mayo man Eamonn Keaveney had worked up quite a appetite by the time he took a seat in the winter sunshine on Wexford’s quayfront on Tuesday. Utterly beaming, he made light work of a chicken fillet roll from a local deli.

"This is my first chicken fillet roll for nearly a year,” the 33 year-old says between bites. “They just don’t have them in Europe!”

It’s fair to say that Eamonn is deserving of his sustenance. At the time of speaking, he was on day 314 of a massive odyssey that’s seen him traverse the entire continent of Europe, walk through ten countries and absolutely smash the existing world record for the longest barefoot walk.

Stepping off the ferry at Rosslare Europort, Eamonn’s tired feet took their first steps on Irish soil since March of last year, having covered some 5,870km since, walking more than 20km every day barefoot in all kinds of terrain.

A design shop and restaurant that has called Enniscorthy its home for nearly four years has made the tough decision to close down their premises.

A popular lifestyle café and shop run by Justin and Kate Campbell, Dusty Boy was one of the first shops people would see driving or walking into town on Abbey Street.

Offering speciality treats in conjunction with their award-winning design lines, they soon became a community hub that combined events like yoga with art and food.

Unfortunately, the couple have decided to close their Enniscorthy premises, instead deciding to focus on their other outlet in Castlebridge, which has a much larger storefront.
