Meet Geri, fisherman’s daughter to a winning powerlifter who is off to represent Ireland in South Korea...

From her father’s fishing boat in Skerries to the world stage of competitive powerlifting, Geri Heasman (41) has taken a journey few could have predicted. A single mum of three, she only discovered her sport at age 40 — and began winning straightaway. Between school runs, evening shifts at the Balrothery Inn, and squeezing in training hours while the kids are at school, she’s lifting not just barbells but expectations of what’s possible when determination meets raw strength. From Ballygossan to downtown LA: Paula wins an Emmy for Star Wars series....
Paula Fajardo of Ballygossan, Skerries, has won an Emmy for her work as Assistant Costume Designer on the Costume Team for critically acclaimed Star Wars series, Andor. Paula dressed the female characters in the series.
The Emmys are television’s biggest night, where the best on the small screen win the gold spotlight. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held on September 6, a week before the Primetime Emmy Awards which were held on September 14.
Between the two awards ceremonies, Andor actually picked up five awards. As well as Outstanding Costume, the Disney+ series was recognised for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, Production Design, Visual Effects and Picture Edition. Paula and her team were flown over for the Creative Arts Awards at the beginning of September and Skerries News caught up with her soon after she got back.
