Sligo musician and songwriter Jason Mills is celebrating a surge of creative success from the “man cave” studio at his home in Ballisodare, where he has penned a series of Christmas tracks now proving hugely popular.

Mills, who developed his love of music as a child with guidance from Georgie Gorman, has released two festive songs — Christmas Cheer and Under the Tree - along with Rarin’ to Go, which has attracted over 23,000 hits on social media and continues to gain momentum across Spotify, iTunes, Alexa and local radio.

After a decade performing with several bands on the Sligo music circuit, Mills stepped back from gigging earlier this year to focus on writing and recording from his home studio, describing the process as both creatively fulfilling and good for mental wellbeing.

Sligo GAA legend Mickey Kearins has reflected on his celebrated playing career, fifty years on from the county’s landmark 1975 Connacht Championship victory.

Regarded by many as Sligo’s greatest ever footballer, Kearins spoke about the highs and lows of his time in the black and white, the teammates who shaped an era, and the significance of finally securing a Connacht medal after years of near misses.

Now 82, the former All-Star also voiced his support for the GAA’s new rules, saying they have “improved the game immensely” and would have suited his own style of play.

Rail was the big winner for the West in the National Development Plan Review for 2025 along with the Eastern Garavogue Bridge but upgrading of the N17 and the N15 are on the long finger with motorists having to put up with any more years of tortuous drivng. Paul Deering reports

Sligo can look forward to work starting on the Eastern Garavogue Bridge in 2026 but it will be years before the county sees a start on upgrading both the N17 and in particular the N17.
