Seamus Whitty has been appointed as the new CEO of KCYS and brings over 25 years of experience spanning youth work, education, and community development.

Described as a veteran of the local youth work sector, Mr Whitty previously served as Youth Development Officer with the Kerry Education and Training Board (ETB), and spent many years with the charity Kerry Life Skills delivering wellbeing and resilience programmes.

His background also includes academic research focusing on youth wellbeing and ensuring young people’s voices shape the services designed for them.

KCYS Chairperson Arlene Harmann expressed the board’s enthusiasm for the appointment saying Mr Whitty brings a wealth of experience to the role.

“Seamus is deeply commitment to supporting young people. We are very much looking forward to working with him as KCYS continues to develop and strengthen its work with young people and communities across Kerry,” Ms Harmann said.

Caherdaniel and Castlecove came alive last weekend as the Cur le Chéile Festival returned for its third year, bringing together locals and visitors for a packed weekend of music, culture, family activities and community celebrations.

The three-day festival featured a wide-ranging programme, with events taking place across the two South Kerry villages from Friday through Sunday. Music was a major part of the celebrations, with live performances, a music trail, a céilí and a retro disco among the highlights, while a Sunday street party brought the weekend to a close.

Families were also at the heart of the festival, with activities including festival games, a teddy bear picnic and a variety of creative workshops. Storytelling, nature events and other activities gave people of all ages plenty of opportunities to get involved.

The festival also placed a strong emphasis on local heritage and community, with a Fair Day and Country Market among the events celebrating the character and traditions of the area.
