Tomorrow Saturday is parkrun Day at Deerpark Forest parkrun Virginia

9.15am beside Virginia Rugby Club for a 9.30am start.
Bring your barcode, printed or screenshot. If you don't have a barcode, you can register at https://parkrun.ie/register/

Guess what?
Yes, tomorrow is parkrun day.

To be honest, we were borderline this week and just got our required number of volunteers.
I even had one of our regulars offering to change family plans so we could be there for our community. Thankfully they can now keep to their original plan.
So if it is at all possible add you name to our volunteer group, it's a WhatsApp group, and the more names included just means a better balance between volunteering and partaking.
Anyway we have enough.

So that means we shall see you at 9.15am tomorrow beside Virginia Rugby Club for a 9.30am start. Bring your barcode, printed or screenshot. If you don't have a barcode, it means you have to register at parkrun.ie
Once registered you are able to partake in any parkrun worldwide.

🚜🌿 Hedge-Cutting Season Reminder 🌿🚜

From 1st September 2025 to 1st March 2026, landowners, farmers, and householders are reminded of their responsibility to cut and maintain roadside hedges and overhanging trees.

This isn’t just about tidy hedgerows – it’s about safety for all road users: motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.

⚠️ Please also watch out for slow-moving hedge-cutting vehicles on local roads during the season. Give them space and drive with care.

Let’s all do our bit to keep our roads safe, clear, and neighbourly this season. 💚

Hedge-Cutting Season: 1st September 2025 – 1st March 2026

From 1st September 2025 to 1st March 2026, landowners, farmers, and householders are reminded of their responsibility to cut and maintain roadside hedges and overhanging trees to ensure the safety of all road users – motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Under Section 70 of the Roads Act 1993, the responsibility for maintaining roadside hedges lies with the owners or occupiers of adjoining lands.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ School Marathon Relay – Let’s Cheer Them On! 🏁🎉

Thursday, 25th September, the brilliant pupils of St Mary’s NS, Virginia will take on a mighty challenge of running the full marathon distance of 42,195 metres… but they’re doing it in relay format, as a team, and all for a great cause! 💪✨

The event kicks off at 10am at the school, and it promises to be full of fun, energy and local spirit! 🎽💚

This is a fundraising event so keep an eye out for the students who will have sponsorship cards and might be calling at your door. If they do, please support them if you can, every bit helps and goes right back into supporting the school and our local children. 🙌💛

Let’s get behind them and show what our community is made of! Best of luck to all the young runners – we’re proud of ye already! 🏅👏

🏗️ Plans for 12 new homes in Virginia, Co. Cavan have hit pause despite being approved by Cavan County Council just five weeks ago.

The proposed development at Rahardrum, less than 2km from Virginia’s Main Street, aimed to bring a mix of 3- and 4-bed semi-detached homes to one of the county’s fastest-growing towns.

But following a planning appeal by local residents citing concerns over flooding, traffic, and environmental impacts, the project is now in limbo.

📅 A final decision from An Coimisiún Pleanála isn’t expected until January.
