Scholarships open for award-winning
Television and Media Production course
Scholarships are available for eligible candidates on South East Technological University (SETU) and Nemeton TVâs award-winning Higher Diploma in Television and Media Production.
The eight-month postgraduate course commences on 21 September, and there is still time to apply. Prospective students can find out more at an online information session on Thursday, 13 August.
âThis course is designed for people who want to take their first steps into television and media production, as well as those who already have experience and want to develop their skills and open up new career opportunities. The combination of practical workshops, online learning and block-release delivery makes it particularly suited to people who are working or have other commitments,â says Dr Moira Sweeney, Course Leader, Higher Diploma in Television and Media Production.
Scholarships for eligible candidates are open again this year. âThe course has a strong track record of helping graduates build careers across the television and media industry, and we are very proud of the calibre of work produced by our students and the recognition they continue to receive,â Dr Sweeney adds.
Run by top industry professionals and with support from ĂdarĂĄs na Gaeltachta and GrĂŠasĂĄn na MeĂĄn Skillnet ESF+ Programme, the postgraduate course attracts participants from all over Ireland and further afield.
âOne of the great strengths of the programme is the way students can combine their new skills with the experience and talents they already have. We have seen musicians, artists, theatre practitioners and people from many other backgrounds use the course as a springboard into television and media production,â says Dr Sweeney, âThe success of our students is particularly rewarding and with 13 nominations and two awards at this yearâs National Student Media Awards, our students have really demonstrated the quality and ambition of the work being produced on the programme.â
The postgraduate course is highly regarded in the media sector, with an excellent employment record in Irish, Canadian, Australian and UK television. Graduates work across an impressive range of genres, from documentary and drama to live sport and music, for TG4, RTĂ, the BBC and production companies including Tyrone Productions, Nemeton TV, Independent Pictures and Magamedia.
âOur students have the opportunity to learn from people who are actively working at the highest levels of the industry. The masterclasses and specialist workshops give them direct insight into the creative and technical realities of television production, while the practical nature of the course means they are developing work that can help them progress professionally,â says Dr Sweeney.
Award-winning alumni include producer Aisling NĂ Fhlaitheartha (David Keene â Words on Canvas), Cormac Morrell (Laochra Gael, FinnĂŠ), assistant director Aoife Doyle (Cursed, Into the Badlands, Supergirl), producer and director Edel Fox (Noel Hill â Aisling Gearr, SlĂ na mBeaglaoich), editor Alan Devitt (Dr Evaâs Portuguese Adventure, Gogglebox), director and editor OisĂn MistĂŠil (Try!, Ar ThĂłir na Crown Jewels), director and cameraman Craig Speers (Out of their League, Pet Surgeons) and producer Caroline Dalton (Drivetime, The Ray DâArcy Show).
The high-quality films produced on the course have also been broadcast on TG4âs CĂŠad Seans | First Chance and have achieved recognition at festivals around Ireland.
Dr Sweeney continues, âIf you are considering a career change, want to add television and media production to your existing skillset, or simply want to turn an idea into a professionally produced piece of work, I encourage you to join our information session on Thursday 13 August at 7pm.
