Jerusalem Channel Your destination for news and insight from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. This is a Judeo-Christian ministry. (Acts 1:8). (Daniel 11:32)

We believe in Jesus (Yeshua) and honour the Hebraic foundations of the Christian faith. Without the Hebrew Scriptures, the New Testament cannot stand on its own. Jerusalem Channel Co-founders Christine and Peter Darg first visited Israel in 1975. The nation was still recovering from the Yom Kippur War of 1973 and was a very different atmosphere from the vibrant and dynamic country of today. The fo

llowing year, 1976, brought Israel to the world's attention with the hijacking of a flight from Tel Aviv to Paris that ended up in Entebbe, Uganda. Israeli commandos, led by the brother of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, made a dramatic rescue of the passengers on July 4th, the 200th anniversary of US independence. Christine, an award-winning newspaper journalist, was in Tel Aviv to interview some of the Israeli hostages. Through these early experiences, the Dargs began to understand contemporary Israelis and their struggle to survive against a violent and hostile world. At the same time, London-born Peter Darg was completing his studies in the USA at a theological seminary to achieve a deeper comprehension of the Biblical side of Israel's extraordinary history and how God had singled out the Jewish people to be a nation of priests and a light to the nations. Christine's earliest childhood memory was a visitation from Jesus during a life-threatening illness. His appearance in an open vision to heal her was not a Sunday school image of a meek Gentile, but a man of clearly semitic, Mideastern features. Growing up in America, Christine's godly parents taught her deep roots in the Old Testament and an undeniable connection with the Jewish people. The Dargs' call to Israel was confirmed in 1978 when they were selected by the Christian Broadcasting Network to open a news bureau for the TV ministry in Jerusalem. Their work and raising a young family in Israel would be an opportunity to meet Arabs, Jews and Christians within the country and beyond with trips to worn-torn Beirut, Amman, Damascus and into the Gulf states. Jerusalem would always be the base for what became a principle of the burgeoning Exploits Ministry, to be the Lord's witnesses first in Jerusalem, then Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. Today, Exploits reaches globally out of Jerusalem to all nations. We hold major Gospel campaigns and Bible Workers Convocations in many nations as well as annual prayer convocations in Israel. "The people who know their God will be strong and carry out exploits."

God of Jerusalem, rebuke Satan's manipulation of the hostage situation which deceives many Israelis into thinking that Bibi is responsible for the hostages not being rescued as opposed to Hamas who seized them and who is keeping them in cages even today (Zech. 3:2)

Praise: Shabbat's prophetic portion confirms that God is omniscient – all knowing. Since He dwells in eternity which is outside of time, He knows all that will happen – all at the same time. So what He declares to Jeremiah is very encouraging to us as well. Thank You Lord for revealing to us tha...

If you’re not watching developments unfolding in Syria with the Druze and Israel’s response, you should. Ask why you’re not seeing reports of these.

One reason you may not be hearing about this is because it’s a situation of Arabs massacring other Arabs (though albeit Arabic speakers, or Moslems slaughtering other Moslems and other minorities, though Druze do not consider themselves Arab or Moslem), which is “normal” and widespread throughout history. You’re not hearing about this because the Jews and Israel not only not be blamed, but they are the saviors of the Druze.

Who are the Druze?

Druze are an ethnic and religious minority of several hundred thousand to one million. They live primarily in Syria (the largest number), Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan. Their religion is largely secretive and generally considered an offshoot of Islam with other influences. Their prophet is Jethro (as in the father in law of Moses). Because they are a small, close-knit religious and ethnic community indigenous so southern Syria and Lebanon and northern Israel and Jordan, they have close family connections which have been separated by the artificial borders made up by Britian and France as new nation states were created a century ago after WWI.

Because Druze are such a small minority, over the centuries they have undertaken a practice to be loyal even nationalist defenders of the countries in which they reside. In Israel that’s especially the case which I will discuss below. In the case of Syria and Lebanon where most Druze live, they are considered loyal Syrians and Lebanese. They are not looking to establish their own Druze State as do the Kurdish minority in Iran, Iraq, and Turkey, or other religious and ethnic minorities. However because they are such a small minority, and seen as infidels by Moslems, they are often persecuted specifically in Lebanon and most recently in Syria.

In Israel, since the establishment of the State in 1948, Druze have been a loyal minority, referring to themselves as the cousins of the Jews. As citizens, Druze are the main Arabic speaking Israeli minority who are drafted and actively serve in the IDF, but uniquely in prominent combat units. Proportionally, the Druze have lost an exceedingly high percent of soldiers as compared to other sectors of Israeli society. In most if not every major Israeli Druze community, there is also a military cemetery, with graves etched with the names of soldiers from their communities, in Arabic, memorializing those who have fallen in combat on behalf of the Jewish state.

Druze have served in countless leadership positions throughput Israel, including the Knesset (parliament), as government ministers, diplomats, and of course in senior IDF positions. It’s noteworthy that the highest ranking IDF soldier killed in combat since the war against Hamas began was a Druze Israeli.

Parenthetically, there is a relatively large Druze community in the Golan Heights which has lived between two worlds since Israel took over the territory and annexed it after the Six Day War. Concerned that Israel might return the Golan to Syrian control, most never accepted Israeli citizenship that they were offered for fear of the implications on their families in Syria, or for themselves as “traitors” were they ever to find themselves under Syrian control.

Yet when a Hezbollah missile struck a soccer field on Saturday afternoon July 27, 2024, killing 12 Golan Druze children, Israelis flocked to pay condolences and express solidarity among this sector of the community who are not even Israeli citizens.

Between the commitment of and sacrifices for the Jewish state that the Druze have made, as well as their deep connection to and concern for their relatives in Syria, many Israeli Druze have taken been protesting in Israel on behalf their Syrian brethren. Some have even breached the border with Syria, literally running to defend the Druze communities that have been under attack there, and whose residents have been humiliated, tortured, and executed by militia of the current jihadi Syrian regime.

On the surface, Israel’s military response to the recent assault on Druze communities may raise eyebrows. It makes sense to take out Syrian tanks and other weapons and troops encroaching on the Israeli border in southern Syria where the Druze live. But why specifically defend a non-Israeli ethnic and religious minority at all, much less by striking Syrian military, and regime installation in Damascus?

A few lessons can be learned from this.

Among the thousands of Israelis who have sacrificed since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack and massacre and the war in its wake, the Druze have suffered disproportionately. Yet as a result of the war and these losses, and attacks on Hezbollah and Syria which resulted in the fall of the Assad dictatorship in Syria, a positive outcome is that Syria has been so weakened that Israel was able to go into Syria to defend the Druze at all. A year ago, the scenario would have been very different.

This is an example to all of Israel’s neighbors, specifically Palestinian Arabs and even more specifically Gazans. This is a model of what Israel’s reciprocal support is and can be for peaceful loyal neighbors: to live under the wings of its protection and not as enemies. It’s not just a sensible modern rational nation-state model, but a Biblical model of nations of the world living in peace alongside Israel.

Israeli leaders have spoken vociferously about the imperative to support the Syrian Druze; a non-Israeli ethnic and religious group related to its own loyal ethnic and religious minority. In a world where rampant antisemitism has become acceptable, a parallel question is what nation-state will actually stand to defend Jews in their own countries who are suffering threats around the world. As Jews worldwide live in growing fear and threats, who will come to their defense?

Just weeks ago, there were rumors of Syria becoming one of the next parties to the Abraham Accords, making peace and normalizing relations with Israel. The jihadi Syrian government that overthrew the Assad regime has shown its true colors, attacking Alawites, attacking Christians, and attacking Druze. Perhaps this is the only “normalization” that Israel can ever expect from Syria.

RECLAIMING THE BONES OF THE PATRIARCH JOSEPH!
Genesis 50: 25, "Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear saying, God will surely take care of you and you shall carry my bones up from here, so Joseph died at the age of one hundred and ten years and he was embalmed and placed in a coffin in Egypt."

"Nearly 25 years after the IDF ignominiously pulled out of Joseph's Tomb in Nablus, Israel may at last be on the verge of correcting that grievous affront to Jewish history and destiny.

"According to a report last week in Yediot Aharonot, the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee's Subcommittee on Judea and Samaria, chaired by Religious Zionist Party MK Zvi Sukkot, convened a special session to discuss for the first time the restoration of Israeli sovereignty to the holy site.

"IDF officials who participated in the meeting promised to prepare a feasibility study within six weeks, which could pave the way for the renewal of a permanent Jewish presence at the site.

"The tomb is the burial place of one of our greatest biblical forebears, and it is one of Israel's premier sites of religious, historical, and archaeological significance.

"Zvi Ilan, one of Israel's foremost archaeologists, described Joseph's Tomb as "one of the tombs whose location is known with the utmost degree of certainty and is based on continuous documentation since biblical times" (Tombs of the Righteous in the Land of Israel, p. 365).

"According to the Bible, 'The bones of Joseph which the Children of Israel brought up from Egypt were buried in Shechem [Nablus] in the portion of the field that had been purchased by Jacob' (Joshua 24:32). The site is also mentioned in the Midrash.

"Ancient Christian scholars, Arab geographers, medieval Jewish pilgrims, Samaritan historians, and even 19th-century British cartographers all concur regarding Joseph's Tomb and its location.

"But despite its centrality to our heritage, Joseph's Tomb was left to the mercy of Palestinian vandals, terrorists, and hoodlums in 2000, who have repeatedly desecrated it ever since.

"Who can forget the scenes that were aired worldwide in October 2000 when Palestinians armed with sledgehammers put on display their idea of religious tolerance as they hacked, chopped, and smashed one of the most hallowed sites belonging to the Jewish people?

"As a result, the pristine sounds of Jewish prayer that had once filled the skies over Joseph's Tomb were replaced by plumes of smoke as the invading Arab throng pillaged the compound, setting alight holy books and other sacred religious objects.

"The attack on Joseph's Tomb was the culmination of a process that had begun several days previously when Palestinian policemen and Fatah terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the Israeli soldiers guarding the site. A 19-year-old Druze Israeli border policeman was shot and killed in the attack.

"Adding insult to injury, then-prime minister Ehud Barak shortly thereafter ordered the army to abandon Joseph's Tomb in exchange for promises from the Palestinians that they would honestly and truly – with no fingers crossed – do their best to protect the very same site they had just spent several days blasting with automatic weapons.

"Not surprisingly, within a few hours the Palestinians had broken their promise and reduced the site to a pile of flaming ruins.

"In retrospect, it is abundantly clear that Israel made a grievous strategic mistake in pulling out of Joseph's Tomb.

"The withdrawal marked the first time that Israel had directly retreated under fire in the face of Palestinian violence, sending the other side an unequivocal message of weakness and vacillation, one that set the stage for many horrors that would follow.

"As Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, told the Knesset Subcommittee last week, 'After Oct. 7, it's clear to everyone: When we flee from terror, it chases us. Returning to Joseph's Tomb will restore security in Shechem and across Israel.'

"MK Sukkot was equally adamant: 'Joseph's Tomb must once again host a permanent Jewish presence as part of our sovereign responsibility in Judea and Samaria. Leaving the site in the hands of the Palestinian Authority harms both national security and our values.'

"He is absolutely correct.

"Approximately once a month, a limited number of Israelis are permitted to visit Joseph's Tomb with a heavy IDF es**rt in the wee hours of the night. As Otzma Yehudit MK Limor Son Har-Melech said, 'The disgrace of nighttime entry missions must end. We are in the Land of Israel, not in exile.'

"Indeed, even when Israel repaired the site over the years after acts of Palestinian vandalism, it did so quietly, before dawn, as though ashamed of reclaiming a place that has belonged to our people for millennia.

"Enough is enough. The time has come for Israel to right the historic wrong committed 25 years ago and reassert full civil and security control over Joseph's Tomb in Nablus. This includes permanently stationing IDF forces to protect the site and the pilgrims who visit it.

"Second, a Jewish presence should be established in the immediate vicinity – perhaps a yeshiva and visitors center – that would ensure a continuous connection to the tomb and deter future Palestinian vandalism.

"Third, a robust public diplomacy campaign must accompany the move, making clear that this is not an act of 'provocation' but a fulfillment of Jewish religious rights. Access for those of other faiths should be preserved, just as it is at other Jewish holy sites, but Jewish sovereignty must be restored.

"Joseph was one of the founding fathers of the Jewish people. No other nation in the world would think twice about reclaiming its history. And neither should we."
